Any word or update on a manager or the identity of any of the 9 candidates? PeterQ92 (Donegal) - Posts: 115 - 02/08/2023 17:20:54 2498723 Link 0 |
I usually do. Never liked the stuffed shirt, prefer the real thing.

Its bizarre that Fitzmaurice was part of the live commentary team. Even on the hurling game panels, one ex from each county and one neutral its nauseating, mind you BBC commentary (IMO) was a lot better on sunday.

I'd revamp the whole highlights show by scrapping pundits and replacing them with ordinary fans. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 02/08/2023 21:58:41 2498762 Link 0 |
Definitely. Would have been the right woman for the job.

I have to disagree on Fitzmaurice. Yes hes very fair and very knowledgeable, in those terms hes probably the best, but he simply hasnt got the voice for it. Its just one monotonous drone no matter whats happening, i know thats not his fault but thats just how it is. In regards to the sunday game ive actually stopped watching it and also never watch the before game, half time or after game analysis on RTE. Despite never watching them i can still pretty much guarantee i know exactly what theyve said cos its the same every week, blah, blah bland bland! tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1430 - 03/08/2023 09:51:45 2498787 Link 3 |
RTE is a waste of money and I only watch it if there is a match on that isn't on any other channel.

Totally agree

Here's a thought. Why not go retro and have no analysts? Like The Big Match back in the day. TSG is not an actual highlights show. Only the key scores and sendings off are shown. bruffgael (Limerick) - Posts: 206 - 03/08/2023 10:07:48 2498794 Link 0 |
Is there a criteria for picking POTY? If I was selecting a criteria, it would be that the player is consistent through the year, has a major influence on their team and their team's progress in the championship. Dublin won on Sunday because they had more players that could contribute on the score board; it seems that Kerry just depend on the two Cliffords. There is a lot more pressure on David Clifford to perform and enable Kerry to win than there is on any of the Dublin players individually. James McCarthy has had a steady year but I wouldn't pick him nor Fitzsimons for player of the year. Having said that Michael Dara won the player of the year award and I wouldn't describe him as a magnificent footballer; he was a great athlete.

Who decides who gets this POTTY?

I think it's all the players who vote on it … I might be wrong though

RTE are not doing the league any favours. All I hear is no one wants to win the league and almost laughing at Mayo fans for getting a bit of joy out of beating Dublin. Connacht rugby are delighted to get 5000 at games. media rave about great atmosphere and they are the best crowds per population of the 4 teams. Mayo get almost 4 times the crowd and wer told league doesn't matter no one cares. brisbane (Galway) - Posts: 675 - 07/02/2024 14:48:33 2524945 Link 0 |
I think the GAA made a mistake and devalued the league competition when they decided to start the football championship one week after the league final is scheduled to be played and introduced groups as part of the All Ireland championship. Teams are only using the league as a fine tuning exercise for later in the summer. Division 1 team managers have decided that their primary goal is to win enough points to be safe in the division and then to concentrate on fine tuning their team and tactics for the championship. Dublin have lost their first two games in the league as they are trying to blood players who will add strength to their team and squad later in the year. Kerry are on a similar mission to unearth forwards to alleviate the scoring dependence on David Clifford. I agree with your assessment regarding the crowd in Castlebar; Mayo have wonderful supporters. They come out in huge numbers, all year round. The Sunday Sport programme should be focusing on divisions 2 and 3; these are the two divisions where the real competition is but all I've heard in the first two weeks is how much danger Cork and Kildare are in and how they could be in the Tailteann cup. Throughout the league, RTE devalue the Tailteann cup by highlighting how much danger teams are in and how they could be playing in the Tailteann cup but by summer time, the same pundits will be telling any one who will listen; how much of a wonderful competition it is. It is so condescending to the teams in the Tailteann cup. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2024 - 07/02/2024 15:45:25 2524966 Link 2 |
Agree that Evanne would be good presenter of the Sunday Game. She knows her Sport.

Not making a judgement at all on what you say, merely making an observation. Interesting that any of us could make a comment about the drone of a Kerryman's voice and nobody bats an eyelid and thinks it an unfair comment but when people made the exact same comment last year about the voice of a certain camogie player from your county, all hell broke loose and much consternation and indignation was expressed in the media about it (to put it mildly!) That is true. Meath won the Tailteann Cup last year, but are struggling again in division 2. At least, they are guaranteed a place in All Ireland competition this year. Unfortunately, participation in the Tailteann Cup would be viewed as a punishment for Cork and Kildare. The merits and pitfalls of Tailteann Cup have been debated at length, and we'll see if it stands the test of time.
