Watched the Sunday Game at the weekend and thought if that the best show Rte can put together then we're in trouble. The show is so band and boring, lacks creativity, pundits afraid to say anything but the scripted text. The GAA are so poor at selling the brilliant product it has. No proper analysis of the games, no indebted interviews, no excitement. It was like watching a current affairs program. There are so many brilliant speakers about GAA out there and its a pity they end up with the pundits they have on both the SG and SGL. imformed (Roscommon) - Posts: 184 - 06/06/2023 07:49:29 2484260 Link 4 |
It's a very poor watch, I've found myself just waiting for the highlights to come on Twitter! I'd love to see GAAGO have a crack at a highlights show and bring some of their recruits in, try something different! We've been saying the same thing about the Sunday Game for years. The best analysis you'll get I find is the Football Pod, I look forward to it every week and it rarely, if ever, disappoints. Who have told peter Canavan he was a pundit needs a serious talking too. Honestly the worst pundit ever.

He used to put me off watching Sky and now doing the same with RTE. Yet some actually think he's good

normally a fan of tomas o'se but it bothered me a bit during the armagh tyrone game when he said that it was lacking the bite or intensity of a championship game. MalsBalls (Monaghan) - Posts: 199 - 06/06/2023 11:26:41 2484336 Link 3 |
It is not a highlights programme per se. And neither is the Monday night TG4 programme for that matter. The key scores and sendings off are shown and that is it action wise. KnockaineyAbú (Limerick) - Posts: 96 - 06/06/2023 11:42:23 2484343 Link 0 |
It is a dreadful offering week in week out. Seldom bother to tune anymore. SixtiesKid (Galway) - Posts: 327 - 06/06/2023 11:46:03 2484349 Link 2 |
Most of the football analysts have no charisma, fairly dull. Even if they were great players and make good points it's hard to knock a bit of craic and banter out of Gooch, Séan Cavanagh, Cora and Ciaran Whelan. I love hurling, know very little about it but think it's a great game. Is the hurling analysis more positive, craic, laid back than the football analysis and is that purely because they have better games to be more positive about compared to a few defensive football games? Podcasts are a much better listen for me, more relaxed, less scripted, more inclined to criticise felliw players and officials. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7651 - 06/06/2023 12:16:10 2484361 Link 0 |
On the highlight show why are the matches which are televised earlier covered in detail again. Surely the Sunday / Saturday night show should concentrate on matches not shown live. The live matches have been analyzed at depth during the coverage without doing so again. Jack L (None) - Posts: 3141 - 06/06/2023 12:23:15 2484365 Link 2 |
Spot on, just so bland and rigid but that could be how the show is run as well. In fariness to P Canavan and Lee Keggan, I'd say they could have a bit of craic if let off the shackles a bit more.

Too right, the Monaghan v Clare match was as good a game as you will see this year, everything that is good about the game was on show, high fielding, long range point scoring, all out attack ( which will stand to both teams), no cynicism, just hard honest football. The game of the season so far and all we got was about 8 minutes of it. Would have liked to see a bit more of the likes of Leitrim and Antrim too, seems the analysis only focuses on a couple of games which are therefore prioritised. Monday night on tg4 has better highlights mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1053 - 06/06/2023 13:36:48 2484404 Link 0 |

Just 4 Tailteann Cup games on today. There are a few Camogie games listed as well. Condensed highlights, ( very condensed) on the Sunday Game.

The Saturday highlights have been enjoyable to watch. I don't think people want to be waiting until Sunday night for the Saturday games any more. Highlights of the 4 Tailteann games today should be on RTÉ this evening.

Joe Canning is the best analyst on Sunday game. Called out 3 Limerick goals which could have been disallowed in game against Cork. Great player and now a great analyst. Analyzes game accurately, and also highlighted a few goals Limerick missed. The experts in general, questioned the penalty award to Gillane. Clare better watch out for his gamesmanship tomorrow for Munster Final!

Keep an eye out for Clare divers which RTE somehow have missed.

They spend a third of the show talking about English soccer.

It'll be interesting to see will he get water downed on the show. He called out Cork iirc to go and press Limerick in the league at half time and the pundits were disagreeing. Cork won that match in the end.

It wouldn't matter if Peter Canavan was the God of all pundits certain people would still run him down. Saynothing (Tyrone) - Posts: 2150 - 10/06/2023 21:56:27 2485389 Link 2 |
