For a three year period the Dubs play all their games away in the other provincial championships. 2024 - Ulster Possible scenario: Prelim: Armagh v Dublin - Armagh Quarter: Tyrone v Dublin - Omagh Semi: Donegal v Dublin - Ballybofey Final: Derry v Dublin - Clones 2025 - Munster Possible Scenario: Quarter: Limerick v Dublin - Limerick Semi: Cork v Dublin - Cork Final: Kerry v Dublin - Killarney 2026 - Connacht: Possible Scenario: Prelim: New York v Dublin - New York Quarter: Roscommon v Dublin - Roscommon Semi: Mayo v Dublin - Castlebar Final: Galway v Dublin - Salthill Now I know people think the provincials are dead so nothing like throwing the Dubs into the mix to spice things up. The Dubs supporters love their away days so they'd get plenty here and it would give many a provincial town an economic boost. (New York as we know could do with a wee helping hand :p) I've always said Leinster would actually be a decent enough competitive championship without the Dubs in it. Terrible idea. just change the whole structure. have a league based main competition. It's not going to happen obviously, just thrown out for debate. What are the major negatives with such an idea? Galway and Antrim play in Leinster because there is no Connacht or Ulster hurling championship. Holding a Leinster football championship but refusing Dublin entry would be absurd. Yeah the provincials are on the way out. I think the GAA strategists decided on these groups stages this year as a kind of mechanism to further weaken the purpose of the provincial championships. So rather than the GAA coming out and saying outright, "the provincials are now obsolete and will be disbanded as competitions", which would undoutedly cause some uproar, ranting and raving. They have instead added these groups with their excess of matches required to come up with a last 8. You saw it with Kevin McStay's recent comments. While not saying for a minute that Mayo intentionally lost to Roscommon, were they wild bothered at losing out on another Connacht medal? As it was they took a nice wee break for a couple of weeks before getting back into some serious training for the real stuff that's ahead of them. Unless the provincial winners are somehow rewarded in the All Ireland series then they're a dead duck. Keep them play them during the season. remove the pre season cups and play the provincials throughout the year as a straight knock out cups with extra time/penalties. some of stronger counties may not care but that gives other counties a shot at winning. give counties a decent reward for winning which could help keep interest. While Mayo as you give an example may not care too much about losing. Leitrim would give anything to win a connacht title. same with counties in other provinces and plenty of counties at that....
