Replying To royal1967:  "Big win for summerhill, losing by a point at ht after kicking alot of wides against a tricky breeze, the bracks will be very disappointed with there 2nd half performance only scoring 2 points one in the first minute, summerhill much more clinical in the 2nd half with better forwards on show, the bracks depending on Danny Quinn alot at 11 with Damien Carroll doing ok there 14 was drifting around the field with no effect on the game"
The Hill were very impressive when they got on top, big goal chance missed which would have put Bracks 5 up in early stages of 2nd half would have made it interesting however it really did wake the Hill up and they were very good when they had their 15 minute spell scoring 2 -05 with out reply.

We gave it a good go and nothing between teams in the first 40 minutes in my opinion but the physicality and experience of The Hill along with their bench was just too much for us in the end. Was a little bit like Limerick and Kilkenny last Sunday, pure power , experience and some great skill when in final 3rd of the game.

Best of luck to The Hill , be a great game with them and the Tones in Rd 2.

Cathal Hickey and Donal Lenihan were outstanding for their clubs on Friday evening. Both were almost single handedly carrying their teams.

Ah there was 2 if them in it to be fair... even with a strong wind (w Simonstown in first half) both teams sat back... Trim provably should have been up at half time playing against the wind but then only scored 1-2 in the second half, and the goal was dubious.

Ashbourne surprisingly beaten but still not as embarassing as their clubhouse for the Dublin game...

There a loads of Dubs in Meath. As long as many of them get involved in their local clubs I don't see the issue. Being in the Ashbourne clubhouse and buying pints there (that supports the club) is a start.

I agree with that, but it's the club showing it off on social media Id have a bigger issue with and its not the first time either. The club organised a bus to a Dublin game in Leinster one year when they had Menton as the captain of Meath, but there was no bus organised for the Meath game at the same time.

Slane beating St. Paul's by 53 points. Not beneficial to either team.

Will be very surprised if St Paul's continue to fulfill the fixtures. That surely has to be the biggest loss in championship history in meath?

Always going to be difficult for them given their location, any decent player can just play for Dunboyne leaving St Paul's with nothing. They never submit a panel so no idea where they are with numbers but they've conceded a lot of games this year so assume they're struggling. Surely the county board have to do something?

I can't understand it. Remember they were junior champions in 1998. Only 15 players can play at a time for Dunboynes first team and numbers or players being away with work really shouldn't be an issue. Why did the Moyles leave them back in the day. Anthony was only ever Dublin based I thought and this was his home club? It seems to be more an issue of management within their club more than anything but there are certainly opportunities there if enough people want it. Eastern Gaels starting at the bottom but they may gain traction too.

To get to Pauls' current ground from Clonee, you have to go through Dunboyne. Add to that the fact that you have Erin go Brágh, the Dublin club, based two minutes away in the other direction in Littlepace, St. Paul's are never going to have any new players come through. Any potential new players will either continue to play with Dunboyne or go across the border. Their only hope is to find a location for a new pitch within Clonee but that's likely never going to happen. Honestly can't see them ever being any way competitive at any level in the future but if they're willing to continue, then there's nothing that really can be done I suppose.

Think the massive problem is at underage, I think for a long period they didn't field U10 and U12 teams meaning all the underage players would end up at Dunboyne and by the time they're 13/14/15 - they're not going to up and move to St Paul's where a lot of their friends aren't playing. I don't know if they are fielding underage teams now?

But they were originally Clonee based if I'm correct? before they moved out to where they are now which is the middle of no man's land - so that can't help either attracting players as there's no town/village associated with them I suppose.

But yeah, surely they can string together 15 half decent players given there's a big population around them. There has to be a management issue somewhere.

Like I look at other Junior A and B clubs that have been struggling like Drumcondrath, Clonard etc.. neither have huge picks and they're at least capable of being competitive at their level. To lose my 50 odd points this week, and 40 odd the week before, has to be a serious issue somewhere.

As far back as the early 90s they haven't had any underage at all and were merged with Dunboyne. Maybe before that they did. Problem is also the demographic in the area. If you look at Clonee village it is I would say 90% made up of foreigners renting a lot of the old houses in the village and definitely all the apartments are occupied by foreigners mainly Brazilians.

I've no issue with this just to be clear but the point is that yes we are seeing some 2nd generation irish getting involved in the Gaa but not a massive amount so they will struggle to get new members in when most of young adult population in the area are non nationals.

The other 10% of houses in the village and then out in the surrounding rural parts of Clonee are mainly made up of people who have lived there for 50/60/70 years and who's kids have moved out of the area.

Any adults who do have kids and are settled in the meath part of clonee will have kids going to the schools in Dunboyne so naturally the kids will play for Dunboyne.

To be honest I think they are doomed unfortunately.

Have to agree with no underage structure any club will fall into oblivion, the bond to a club is grown through years of playing for a club and friendship no underage to back it up will ensure their downfall. The big issue they face in the coming games is that other teams in their group will need to hammer them for score difference so I would expect the next two games will be around a similar scoring margin. Should be a Junior C championship potentially implemented next year as the gulf from top to bottom in the Junior B is massive. Moynalty and Slane are 10 points better then anybody else in junior B.

They don't field any underage teams and like you said Erin Go Bragh take the Dublin side of Clonee that is Littlepace. If Meath GAA had been clued in they could have got Games Promotion Officers into the schools in Littlepace to make sure it fed into Clonee and Meath GAA and not Dublin but that chance is gone (there's not really much GAA in it). I believe the pitch has been sold as that whole area is zoned for development near the train station. To me there's only 3 ways Paul's survive, 1). Take the money for the sale of the pitch and build a new pitch/clubhouse to cater for the new homes that go in near the train station. 2). Look for a new pitch in Clonee. Costly and difficult and would require heavy input from the county board I would think. 3). Operate a system where there could be agreement with St Peter's Dunboyne to have players play for St Paul's who wouldn't be first or maybe even second team players. Again highly unlikely but given that Dunboyne had 4 teams 2 years ago and now have 2 and there is 0 interest in the premier championships this would be mutually beneficial but there would probably be uproar across the county

Weren't they operating Premier division 5 or something a couple of years back? I know they are a first team but maybe thats the place for them. Couldn't see too many 2nd or 3rd teams objecting and as was pointed out that farce yesterday is of no value to anyone.

I agree fully with this and can't understand why they are not in it this year, they were very unlucky with the draw aswell the four best teams in junior b are in there group, might hav been more competitive against the likes of Eastern gaels drumconrath and clonard

They wanted to enter a premier competition but if they do they have to surrender their rights as a club with regards county board votes and I would imagine some funds allocations maybe

I can only imagine how kindly we'd take it if other counties started sending GPOs to Meath schools directing the kids to non-Meath clubs and counties. Why would Dublin tolerate it from Meath?

St Pauls must be the richest club in Meath. Is that why they keep going and trying to field teams?
