Replying To BarneyGrant:  "You are missing the point. The GAa and RTÉ through GAAGO are charging people to watch matches that if shown as part of Saturday evening viewing would have audiences of hundreds of thousands.

I do not watch RTÉ other than matches but I wouldn't imagine too many more people than that watching whatever else they had on same time as Tipp and Cork?

Why don't they put Late Late behind a paywall? I'd imagine there'd be millions paying to see that :-)"
the diaspora man. There are thousands around the globe who can now watch GAA via GAAGO. Its cheaper than a sky subscription and you can watch the games whenever you like. and there is a GAAGO app on Roku

Replying To Ban:  "And thinking you know the majority of people on this site and therefor making sweeping statements isn't arrogant? Or maybe unable to accept that theres a point of view which is different to yours.

Fir what it's worth, I understand where you coming from and think the gaaGo model can work. I think the method of implementation this year is distasteful and unbalanced."
What method of implementation this year? GAAGO is something that has been on the go long before this year and has run very similar to it is this year. It's actually better this year as they've brought in analysts

Pulling the best hurling matches off TV is what I'm referring to.
There's a generation thats been totally forgotten about here. My father gave a significant amount of his life to the gaa. This evening, I'm going to be setting him up to watch the hurling on his phone. For 30 years these matches have been live on TV. Is this progress?

Maybe I'm off the mark! When matters like this are discussed in the Dail then something has gone wrong somewhere.. As a fella would say - read the room..

The Irish in the Uk have paid to watch their national games for as long as I remember, be that on TV or in the Cinemas years ago.
See they don't have the right to watch RTE for free or even legally unlike every other Nationality who seem to be able to watch their countries TV.
They even have to pay for water.!!
