Yet I'm sure there was plenty of CB hangers on in Croke Park for the actual game.

Offaly outrages favourite's. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3178 - 25/05/2023 13:31:28 2481506 Link 0 |
Offaly are the form team. Division 2A winners and a 100% record after Round 4. Round 5 was irrelevant for Offaly. Offaly beat Laois and Kerry. Carlow beat Offaly B. Carlow are well capable of winning but Offaly are rightly and understandably favourites.

New season is a joke. Suits a few elite players so the GPA are on board and they can head off for their jolly boys outings later in the year. The AI finals should be in August. End of.

Stop being paranoid, new season was introduced to give exclusive time for Club Chamoonships.

Or back to September.

If you think Carlow have a chance then 15/8 is a good price. Although should be 5/2 if it was a truer book.

Bookies are making so. Wouldn't be like them; )

When are you proposing club championships are played then?

I don't mind what odds Carlow are. Bookies don't win hurling matches, hurlers do. If Carlow turn up and perform as they can I believe they will win. Ceatharlach Abu! Unusedsub (Carlow) - Posts: 116 - 25/05/2023 18:50:53 2481613 Link 2 |
Punters move the prices from the odds set but GAA betting is distorted here by their only really being one bookie. Odds on short priced favourites are sometimes good value and you will see teams backed from 2/5 to 1/4 at times, but there's no value in backing teams that ought to be 5/2 priced at 15/8. In any event, the bookie in question will not take the sort of money on GAA matches that you would get on a horse, because they have no way of laying it off. All the prices I see have Carlow at 9/4, don't know where 15/8 is coming from. hurlingguru (Carlow) - Posts: 1838 - 26/05/2023 10:15:10 2481667 Link 0 |
As posted by supersub above. I think that was correct at time of posting. 9/4 mildly attractive. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3506 - 26/05/2023 10:37:01 2481673 Link 0 |
It is a good question. The point was more about the lack of media coverage for the Joe McDonagh Cup tournament or the final in particular. The split season does help clubs to some extent, provides an opportunity for a percentage of elite players to spend the summer in the US (not immediately returning to clubs) but the evidence is clear the GAA inter county championships are being run off during the sports press peak time of the year. Joe McDonagh Cup doesn't stand a chance in getting any coverage, the championships in general are struggling to find space in the media. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 26/05/2023 10:43:00 2481675 Link 0 |

The Joe McDonagh final will be televised live on Rte 2. Maybe there should have been more games shown but it's hard to fit them in with so many games over a short period of time. Answer, extend the season into late August. This would spread the games out and so allowing for more coverage of the 2nd tier competition. Actually I believe Clubber TV streamed games from the Joe Mc Donagh over the season. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 449 - 26/05/2023 13:22:23 2481728 Link 1 |
Just put a treble on with Ladbrokes on all the home teams in the Leinster championship this weekend as they gave me another free bet. Pays 34.75-1. They have the Joe Mac final as 9-4 Carlow, 4-9 Offaly, and the draw 9-1.

The McDonagh is being left down by Round 5. Antrim B v Kerry. Carlow v Offaly B. I've already mentioned the solution. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8773 - 26/05/2023 15:40:38 2481771 Link 0 |
Hi guys, anyone tell me why this game is being rushed so early, I thought it was getting a slot to be before leinster finals from now on... Is it stand alone fixture, is it getting the proper promotion now if it is standalone fixture, will there be 15000 there if we are lucky, it does not look good on the gaas part on the promotion of the competition preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 801 - 26/05/2023 18:42:54 2481812 Link 0 |
Playing on the weekend of the Leinster final only allowed the McDonagh finalists one week to get ready for the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals. This year the McDonagh finalists and 3rd place provincials will all have 3 weeks to get ready. The GAA tried to pair the McDonagh final with the U20 final. Offaly requested that the U20 final be pushed back a week. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8773 - 27/05/2023 07:01:05 2481843 Link 1 |
