What about the turfman from Ardee sung by the late Dermot O'Brien. Lovely song.

I have great memories of even county songs being played on the radio before Munster finals with Cork and Kerry and in All Ireland finals too when it was nerve tingling listening to the Rose of Mooncoin or The Banks of My own lovely lee, Slievnamon etc...now its only a big rigmorale with the red carpet meeting the president, the camera zooming in on high level politicians and over analysis almost down at end of the pitch with headphones and fancy coats and scarves...the old way was much nicer and more memorable..like outside the counties involved who can remember the scores in most All Irelands now, let alone provincial finals and indeed who took part in the latter..its all too comercial and marketed now..

Replying To foreveryoung:  "Yerra you'd still be afraid to even look out your door for fear of a uniform of a Paisleyite, only for our people over here delivering the GFA for ya. And to appreciate it next month, who'll ye be serenading and proclaiming but the Clintons and the American entourage. Come out ye Black and Tan has nothing to do with a county that wears the red hand, a symbol always more associated with unionism than nationalism. We might be all mouth, but we get things done. You're just all mouth, period!"
Holy God ..... Aodh Rua? Eoghan Ruadh? them boys knew how to fight the invader.

Scarlet for you forever. By the way, the GFA did not - nor will it - deliver a united Ireland. As for old Bill least said the better!

Hope you enjoyed your time there, you could park in the middle of the street and nobody would say boo to you.

I know, it gets up unionist's noses that traffic wardens would go into the island. Free for all, double park on mini roundabout if ye want.

Often went out leaving the house unlocked, sometimes for the whole weekend with Stitchy and Clute and the boys, and nothing was ever touched. Yes I really enjoyed my time there!!!

I am of your generation FairPlay, it might not be cool to remember the traditional county songs in some quarters nowadays. I am not a fan of the music currently played at county grounds nowadays, must e a generational thing.
