Replying To Canuck:  "If this is what we want to see players red carded for the game is gone to hell in a hand basket. There were plenty of agreeous fouls that went unpunished. Like pulling a helmet off and hitting a player on the head either careless play or intent."
Canuck Lyons got a yellow for being 3rd man in to a situation. This was flagged up as being a yellow card for a long time now.
He then tripped a guy running at full pelt which is highly dangerous and is a black card in its own right in football or in near goal in hurling, and is certainly a yellow card all day long.
How exactly do you think his sending off for 2 yellows is unjustified? He knew he'd be getting a yellow for both himself by his reaction.

Two blatant yellows. Can't keep count of the amount of red cards Waterford have had the last few years but strangely its never their fault.

I never said his sending off was not justified and the rules carried out as should. He was standing up for his team mate and paid the price. There was nothing cheap about it. In comparison with what occurred causing his reaction for the first one and indeed after the second there is a gulf in the severity of the punishment. A head shot in this incident and Lyon's retaliation to it merits the same punishment as the hit. A helmet pulled off that not so long a go was a straight red. A dangerous but not intentional pull on Gleeson's head that play was not even stopped for. In the second half a similar trip to what Lyons did resulting in no sanction at all. I believe the commentator on t.v. mentioned it straight away.

I agree inconsistent refereeing is very frustrating Canuck. But it still doesn't change the fact that Lyons had to go. As far as the result goes I think the game was heading that way before he got sent off.
