That's because generally the people who criticise the game are people that know very little about it. Simple.

FFs will ye stop blaming poor aul Marty for everything including the state of football. Hes job is to portray whats happening on the field and not make it exciting for you when it clearly wasnt.

Football has never been healthier, take a look at the crowds and we're only over the second round league games. people were blowing about football 2 years ago. Dublin were the best team ever to play the game, What has changed? Nothing , just Dublin aren't champions. Saynothing (Tyrone) - Posts: 2168 - 09/02/2023 18:32:30 2457538 Link 3 |
A commentators job is to comment on what's going on in front of him. People aren't stupid, they would see through that.

Are you for real… of course coaches and managers are stopping players from kicking the ball… It's all gone to a game of no risks which has turned it into a boring spectacle… In nearly all games covered now you can clearly hear players and mentors shouting instructions as the crowd is so silent… Is that not enough to tell you they are bored out of their wits… Mistakes and risk taking makes any sport exciting and therefore entertaining… Gaelic football is the exact opposite and therefore boring to watch.. and I dare say boring to play as well….

You're missing the point badly KillingFields. The game is evolving itself. The vast majority of the rule changes in the recent past have been well intentioned but ill judged. The offensive mark is a case in point. That was followed by the defensive mark which epitomised how ridiculous some of the rule changes were and continue to be. Let the game evolve itself. There has been far too much tinkering with the playing rules. Most certainly you can look at player behaviour and introduce rules to deal with that. One intervention that is urgently needed is in relation to how substitutions are made. KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3681 - 09/02/2023 22:01:53 2457563 Link 0 |
Todays game is 10 times the game played in the past, give me a Division 4 game today over the "great " 47 final any day.

I sometimes think in todays game there is too much emphasis put on being an athlete rather than a footballer. I know the game has changed immensely but I think with the fitness levels there are some managers who prefer to pick a guy who can run all day rather than one who has undoubted better skills. Hence we have half fowards collecting the ball in their own half, the ball is then circulated there for five minutes, the opposition get time to regroup and ball seldom gets up to the foward line. I think a team that can perfect the long ball approach by getting the ball in early to a forward line, with genuine forwards, will go far. What I mean by genuine forwards is people who know how to play there not people who have been manufactured to play there because they are fitter. Why do people engage with this poster? Maybe he had a funny moment back in the day, but he's just trolling you. Tomsmith is a Monaghan supporter who has an unhealthy obsession with Cavan. Its time he found a new hobby.

This is trolling nonsense from this idiot called Tom Smith. He is just bitter because his county Cavan is not good at Gaelic football. A bit like Meath really. Has beens. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2584 - 10/02/2023 10:13:50 2457593 Link 0 |
agree with most of what you said regarding the poster and meath (although that is trolling in itself) but cavan won a provincial championship recently unlike meath, and think they would have a few more if they had to play new york or leitrim in the final......who knows

He's from Monaghan actually. Also, after posting that, there's a certain irony to you calling him a troll! Galway haven't won a championship in over 20 years. You're not exactly tearing it up either!!

Love how you've managed to squeeze in a pop at Meath in a thread where we haven't even been mentioned once. :)

I loved the old game, all the aimless shooting and passing, players who got the ball and their first thought was get rid of it, anywhere, somewhere, like a hot potato they were holding. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1264 - 10/02/2023 12:25:26 2457632 Link 0 |
It's not saying much for those poster's intelligence that engage with him / her, it has nothing to do with football good or bad, in truth it's probably, - - - tomsmith (Cavan) aka KillingFields (Limerick) supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3082 - 10/02/2023 12:33:37 2457634 Link 0 |
Commentating on that 'excessive passing about' is difficult enough, but if you charge them with the task of pretending it's entertaining as well, that could be a bridge too far. Might need to bring in Conor Moore, or Mario, on co-comn to give yourself any chance with that. Pat to Mike to Martin to Stephen back to Pat etc and on and on....sometimes for 2or3 minutes.....or is it less, but feels like 2or3mins watching it....wheres the fun in that?
