Replying To munsterchamps:  "with all the talk about tipp back to their best i still think they won't make it out of munster . my reason is that i think they are going at full throttle at the moment and don't think they will improve much come munster championship. my 3 to come out are limerick clare and cork. waterford are gone bk since fitz has come in , i don't know how any county board would let him manage their team .....he can't see whats going on in a match because all he is doing is roaring at officials and jumping around the place like a mad man . watch john kiely michael o donoghue or liam cahill standing on the line with arms folded taking it all in ."
I agree that I dont think we are in the top 3 currently to get out of Munster. Wont know where we are until we play Clare. I'm not too sure about full throttle given the number of changes being made every week and the fact Forde has been a bit part player for most of the league. If Ronan Maher is now injured as well then we are in big trouble
Picking a starting team especially from midfield up looks hard to predict right now. We have a lot of players at the same level and squad has been developed despite the huge number of injuries.
As I said previously I think we should go all out for the league as any other silverware is unlikely. Beating Limerick next weekend is a huge mountain though and is unlikely for obvious reasons.

I heard that Cork-KK will be in Nowlan Park. Anyone know where Tipp-Lk is on?
Surely the group winners should get the home advantage or else play them in neutral venues. Maybe Cork-KK have an agreement...
I feel this is the first real test Tipp have had as both Waterford and KK were shadow boxing in the league - as were most other teams in the other group. League form means nothing but you have to say Tipp, Cork and Limerick will be happiest given theyve given a lot of players chances and seem to have unearthed new players. I think Davy and Lohan will have two very different teams come cship and they'll be unrecognisable in terms of the intensity they will bring

UNLESS WE BEAT TIPP IN ENNIS FIRST DAY OUT WE WILL BE IN BIG TROUBLE TIPP WILL HAVE IT WELL TIMED I KNOW THAT ITS TOUGH BEING IN A LEAGUE SEMI OR FINAL BUT KILKENNY MANAGED IT WELL IN THEIR POMP.

ITS NO SURPRISE THAT THE 4 BEST TEAMS ARE IN LEAGUE SEMIS WITHOUT TOO MUCH SWEAT BEING LOST

ID SAY NO TEAM WILL MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO WIN LEAGUE BUT WONT GIVE IT UP TOO EASY EITHER.

IS A PITY THE WAY THE LEAGUE HAS BEEN DEMEANED THERE WAS SOME GREAT HURLING MATCHES IN NOVEMBER ECT BACK A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO."
We will see a very different Clare come cship. Dont worry about that. They've flown nicely under the radar in the league and it suits them that people are talking about Tipp. I'm sure they'll be hoping Tipp can beat Limerick as well. Lohan knows exactly how he wants them to play and will have a nice block of training now to work on it.

Replying To Fitzy01:  "I heard Tommy Walsh talk once about the great Kilkenny team being cold blooded rather than hot blooded and i think that sums up the way a successful team should be. You go out with the mentality that you are best and the strongest and are going to impose yourself on the other team, you don't react and play into the games of the opposition trying to upset you. If you start thinking you are the victim in the oppositions games then you've already lost. Kilkenny hit Limerick with a storm in 2007 in the all ireland for example and we were the reactive victims.

It took Limerick a long time to learn this lesson. In Limerick we had so many sob stories and heartbreak and tales of woe and nearly getting there, it's like Kiely came in and said lads forget about the past, in fact lets never even mention it again, ye guys write your own script and go your own way and no team, no matter what they do we are not going to change what we are doing. Obviously there are a few exceptions and a times you willl be human and breakout but in the main i think Limerick have followed this mantra.
The likes of Waterford who have had some of the most talented teams in the country over the years have never learned this lesson imo. Its engrained into the mindset of the big three with decades of success behind them but for teams outside of it its different. I think Caroline Currid had a lot to do with this mindset which blended nicely with a team of young guys coming in to the panel in 2017 who knew nothing but success."
She has some CV. I was lucky enough to have her spend a couple of hours with our club back 10 years ago or so. Personally I didnt really believe in all of that - until after. I've no doubt shes a key factor in Limericks success as she was with Tipp. People cant speak highly enough about her.

Katser has a weird obsession with Limerick. The day he finally predicts a Limerick loss in an important game I think he will die happy then lol

Yes, Cork and Kilkenny have an arrangement for knockout League ties. Cork played Kilkenny at the same stage (League semi-final) last year, in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

This is what makes Kilkenny in the past and the current Limerick team great.
Go out to win every game. No excuses, none of this "oh its only the league" because I guarantee you any team who can hit the ground running in the championship will be at an advantage over a team sitting on their backside for 3-4 weeks.
Too many counties seem to think the league is a warm up, for me it sets down the marker for who you are as a team. If you want to be successful, you have to go out to win every single game from the Walsh cup onwards.

I have never been in favour of mercenary managers. At end of the day they are passing through, taking the benefits, moving on and your arch rival the next year. In Waterford if Tony Browne, Dan Shanahan and Stephen Molumphy are good enough to be involved with other teams do it at home or give them the chance. Sean Power was not given a chance after winning minor and U21 All-Irelands. The proof is there. Our All-Irelands were won at all levels with Waterford men in charge. The big three were mentioned here. Do they go on with this nonsense of outside managers. Limerick now have seen the light. Davy is our manager now and I will support him but these side shows are not going to get us any where. He is getting a newness reaction from the players that will disappear and a local will come in trying to rebuild the piece and get lambasted. The ironic thing is there are good young players on the horizon. Incidentally Dublin have all ready tried one Galway manager. Wexford a Clare manager. Waterford a Tipp manager. How has all that gone when it comes to winning the only one that matters ?

Limerick won 3 games out of 10 between the 2021-22 leagues (2 of them Westmeath and Offaly) so they haven't displayed that trait consistently over the last few years.

Its a fair point. Davy usually has the Mourinho effect and I think he will again this year and there will be a bounce out of Waterford but in the longterm I think you're spot on.

I can only think of Michael Bond and Eamon Cregan who have won All Irelands as outside managers but I'm sure there must be more.

Kiely is a great example. He clearly cares about Limerick in the longterm. Why would an outside manager think the same..

Limerick and Tipp have a knockout league home and away arrangement. Next weekends match will be in the Gaelic Grounds.

The question county boards need to ask themselves is when was the last time an outside manager won the AI?

I would agree with you unfortunately most Counties don't have the depth of talent that Kilkenny & now Limerick have so you can't go flat out each game because the championship is around the corner.

If you take the Limerick team Mike Casey Sean Finn Dan Morrissey and English are all equally at home at full Back
Byrnes D Morrissey and probably Kyle Hayes can fill in at 6 in hannon out they have 12 players plus looking for 6 forward spots.

So if you have the panel you can easily take in both competitions

It's good that the Kat is delighted the big 3 look like they are back..guess it just means it'll be harder for her county to win but don't know if that registered.

Yes, that's true. But we won back to back leagues before that. I'd say the slump in league form had a lot to do with winning the all Ireland in Dec 20, and getting primed to start again so soon after in 2021..

It wasn't necessarily to Limericks benefit to go full throttle into the league last year either. Pacing for the all Ireland took precedence in those years.

Limerick only beat Offaly in last year's League. In 2021 Limerick only won 2 from 5. In 2020 Limerick made a big effort and won it after the disappointing end to 2019. In 2019 Tipperary only won 2 League games from 6 played. I don't think there is any big connection between winning the League and doing well in the championship, while both Waterford in 2022 and Galway in 2021 won or jointly won the League and subsequently lost every championship game.
Looking at last year in particular, of the 4 League semi finalists 1 never made the AI series by winning no championship games at all and 2 others only scraped in on scoring difference. The 4th only won 2 round robin games against abject opposition to get through. The 4 semifinalists put together only won 7 round robin games out of 18 played, and 2 of the victories were against Laois, 1 against Westmeath and 1 against a winless Waterford, the League champions. In fact the only game any of the League semi finalists actually won in the Round Robin series against a team that qualified for the subsequent AI series was won by Wexford, who beat Kilkenny in their last round robin game.

It doesn't matter where the manager is from once he is a good manager and more importantly has a good team on and off the pitch to manage. I'd reckon the main reason Waterford, Dublin and Wexford haven't won an AI lately has nothing to do with where their manager is from.

In fairness to Darragh Egan he has took a very longterm view as regards Wexford and the panel. He even has lads who aren't on the panel on S and C courses and nutrition programs with a view to next year.
