Is It Right? Monaghan V Armagh

(Oldest Posts First)

Monaghan v Armagh is a Saturday evening fixture in Castleblaney. It has been moved from Clones which has a 31,000 capacity to a venue of 4,000. The match isn't on TV. It seems that this is a logical step to limit the away support. With only 1,500 tickets going to Armagh when it was envisaged that they would take 10 times this amount. I can see Monaghan's view, they don't want to be outnumbered in their own ground, but if all counties follow this model - the GAA will loose out.

If I was from Monaghan I'd be annoyed at this, there denying there own supporters going to the game too.

BBC announce coverage yesterday? Possibly only a stream was it? Anyway Monaghan have form for this type of thing, Tyrone normally seem to end up in Inniskeen, Kerry have been taken to Scotstown in the not too distant past etc.

What are you talking about? Blayney has a capacity of 14000. Was done up 5 years ago.

I wish you were correct - but not - Blaney has a fine stand - but we taking of a capacity of roughly 4,000. So when you take in the team allocation( they rightly deserve theirs ), sponsors- clubs get 25 tickets each.
I think it's a massive own goal.
This fixture had the potential of 15k plus - after Armagh turned Croke Park orange last year

There is a 6000 seated capacity there. There are over 2000 plastic seats in the new stand and bench seating for 4000 more. Plus standing room on 3 sides of the ground also.

Not allowed to stand on the banks - they are grass banks

Always was fixed to be in Blayney - Which nobody in Monaghan is happy about, blayney is a poor place to watch a match and a nightmare to get parked at..
The tickets are limited to 7000 and were sold out within two hours of going online.
To my knowledge the game is not being streamed or shown online so all in all just a massive own goal from all involved in organizing this, the game should have been in clones.

Don't be telling the truth now that doesn't suit the story!

Clones has no floodlights, they can't play evening games there this time of year. Think Blaney has a decent capacity though, maybe more than that

Standing on grass/muck banks - great idea for health and safety.

Castleblayney is a shambles of a ground. Zero atmosphere and zero parking - unless you're prepared to walk 30 mins.

Monaghan select their preferred venue for individual prior to master fixture plan release. So toddle on. Ruined potentially a great occasion by having the game in Blayney

Ah OK. Would be slippy this time of year alright.

So you would have played it in inniskeen with less capacity? Or in the dark in clones?

Inniskeen can accommodate supporters on three sides and probably has a greater capacity. Although a village, the Inniskeen club always host fixtures with a very high degree of efficiency and competency. The Down v Monaghan McKenna Cup match had an attendance of less than 1,500 in Blaney and was reported at the time , parking, entering and exiting was chaotic .
