Offaly footballers should have played Louth in last Sunday's semi final. They should have tried to win the O'Byrne Cup.

Do you think managers/management teams consider the supporters (paying public) when teams decide to do what louth, kildare and co did? I think management team are largely focused on their own agenda. I would think they would say something along the line - they are in the results business not the entertainment business.

Louth were the 1st team not to fulfil a fixture and in my view unintentionally started a game of poker between the managers.

Louth should have been expelled from the thing for not fulfilling a fixture.

No team who agrees to play a set number of games in a competition should be allowed to pick and choose what matches they want to play or don't play mid way through the competition. I am sure there are players good enough in Louth who would have jumped at the chance to play the game against Wexford if the manager choose not to play his first 15. What next, teams withdrawing from dead rubber matches in the league?

I wonder what the players thought? I was in Parnell and there was no doubt it meant a lot to the players to beat Dublin in what was the sort of tough game that was once common between the counties. Much enjoyed by the small number of Offaly people there too I have to say and the ones I was talking to were delighted to be in with a chance of winning the competition. Agree. It is total disrespect to the players who give up their time (and bodies) not to be allowed represent the county because some players are not available. They are being used. I suspect that it is mercenary managers who are calling the shots. Then moving on to their next gig with no affiliation to the county or team they left.

It was a big win for Offaly, and one I didn't expect. Having won 2 games, Offaly should have played the semi final. There is a good article in the Leinster Express agreeing that Offaly should have fulfilled the fixture. Liam Kearns on Wednesday raised the prospect of pulling out of the Louth game, which later happened. Louth were wrong not to play Wexford, but Offaly did not have to repeat the error. I thought the teams who withdrew from the dead rubber games should have been excluded from the rest of the competition, but the Offaly stance was strange. What if Louth had sent their Junior squad (ie none of the seniors) to fulfil the midweek fixture? The end result would have been the the same....a fully rested senior squad for the semi-final. Would Offaly not have played in that situation either? We'll likely see plenty of dead rubbers with the new format in the Championship this year. Now Micky is trying to push the stuff that makes the grass grow green in Texas. Saying they informed the Leinster council before the competition that they would not be travelling to Wexford. Buddy if you can not fulfill all the fixtures do not enter the competition. Or you should not be allowed in. It was a shame for our panel with alot of new players who would have got plenty out of the game. Its hard enough being down without other lads kicking you while you are there.

There was several solutions if they wanted. With the size of the panels why not give every player a chance. I am sure Wexford would not be adverse to playing a B team against a Louth B team on the same day as a home game. Giving two matches to their supporters on the same day. I don't know but were Wexford asked to accommodate them any other way. Micky Harte said Louth gave notice before the competition but it does not seem Wexford were included in that conversation. Certainly the Wexford supporters were not. All around pretty shoddy treatment to panelist and supporters.

While I agree with what your saying, I think the main culprit here is the Leinster GAA (highlighting the 'Amateur'). If you are going to set up a competition, is it too much to expect that you cover all the possibilities of a team not fulfilling a fixture, and put in place relevant solutions, with disciplinary rules and punishments, if required? Boom! Exactly that. It's not even an outlier possibility. In 2018 the O'Byrne Cup final kept getting postponed due to weather and didn't happen until 4 months after the semi finals!!! This they can accommodate... but pushing a fixture out by a week to allow for more down time for players, or having mechanisms in place to deal with consequences of those postponement requests being accepted or rejected, this they seemingly cannot do. Leinster Council wears this one!
