Replying To Lockjaw:  "Tom will surely be aghast at the 12 cent increase in pints of Guinness products coming in. Another blow for the vintners of the country who will surely pass on this increase to the customer. I genuinely fear for the pubs of Ireland in rural areas. It's becoming next to impossible to earn a living. The only hope you'd have is you own the property and the mortgage cleared. Even then the overheads must be very difficult - public liability insurance, heating and electricity etc."

Tomsmith here from Cavan..

Aye 12 cent increase if passed on ,Harts corner Bar in Lifford ( Temp closed )or Bannigans mwill not be passing it on for a while. My own watering hole the Imperial run by Donal Keogan I am taul will not be passing it on yet.
I am informed that the Basket collections could come up short on a Sunday due to this terrible increase.
Indeed trips away up to Dublin ( Now that the Toll fee has also increased) is getting expensive. Next thing Lockhard will be turning his nose up at the wan Euro coin for minding the Car.
Ough as the great Mrs T said , sure trips to Croke Park now you would need to be printing money, Fuel, Tolls, Berkley Rd Chapel Match tickets, and if you dont have a Flask with you the price of a cut of Brown bread away up in Dublun is odious. Not to mention Lockhard , not to mention if you have to get aTaxi to search where you left the Motor Car.

You sound as if you'd be happier if Cavan don't get next nor near Croker!

Replying To CastleBravo:  "Had to laugh at the Vintner's federation talking out both sides of their mouths in their submission on the licensing laws. They reckon giving new licenses will put existing pubs out of business, but also that any new pubs will inevitably give a poor service because they'll lack "generational experience"."
As someone who grew up in a pub, and still works in the hospitality industry, I stopped listening to anything the VFI said a long time ago. Most sensible publicans I know did likewise. Terrible organisation, full of dinosaurs living in the past....

Naw Naw Sean fan Bot that is not what I am saying , what I meant to be understood when you read my Posts that the cost of one travelling away up to Dublin is enormous.
Berkley Road Chapel has get coins when the basket comes round indeed maybe twice and then ones at the Gate as you leave for another worthy cause. .
Petrol / Diesel costs.
Road Tolls or go the long way around
Small eats
Admission perm ticket, unless you wait and get one where someone dident turn up
Lock hard , now he wont accept a single Euro, indeed he will look at two Euros with dismay.
.Indeed it would be cheaper to take Bus Eireann, or stay at home and wish them well.
Indeed the great Mrs T says she longs for the day that the free Travel pass is issued to her
