Seems like Kilmacud Crokes championship to lose. Predictions: Ulster: Kilcoo Munster: Nemo Leinster: Kilmacud Connacht: Westport Moycullen, Naas, Ratoath, Kerins O Rahillys, Glen and Crossmaglen all gave great chances to win their provinces. Experience is everything when it comes to club All Ireland. You hardly ever see a team that hasn't won their county in a while go on and win their province. They are a very good outfit who go about their business quietly. Westport have won their first ever county title. That might work against them as they go deeper in to the championship. Kilmacud play Naas in Parnell Park on Sunday. That should be a real contest. So too should 'Cross and Ballybay in the Athletic Grounds on Saturday evening. I'd be very surprised if Moycullen lost to Westport. How many feel that the first Kilmacud goal should have been disallowed on Sunday? I for one feel it should because the quick free was (1) taken from the wrong place, the foul was committed about 5 yards left of where the free was taken from and (2) the free taker took a very long step forward from where he was "handed" the ball before kicking it. All that said it showed a serious lack of concentration by the defender in doing a "Paddy Cullen" act of benevolence to the opposition by gifting them the ball in that situation, what had he to loose by holding on to the ball until all the 'ducks were in a row' so to speak. The free clearly wasn't taken from the correct place, so I thought the referee should have ordered that it be brought back and taken again. Also agree that the defender was naive (at best) in putting the ball down like that for the free to be taken. We often see lads holding onto the ball like that after frees are awarded, and only handing it over after it's nearly wrestled from them. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be nice! Definitely not a 9 point game. Crokes, with Walsh are big box office attractions for the AI semi and final, and I cant help but feel that the GAA have a strong preference for their progression through Leinster. Of course Moycullen would be the preferred opposition in the final to add to the spice, but it doesn't matter, any team who gets to the final 4 v Kilmacud in a semi or final will attract a big crowd and tv audience. Also thought the third goal was a double hop - didn't matter at that stage and could be argued that he lost possession rather than hopping it , but for me dropping the ball in a tackle and picking it up on its first bounce without another player having touched it, should be considered hopping ( otherwise you are getting into a subjective realm as to what's a bounce and what's a hop (and we already have enough subjectivity in the rules). anotheralias (Galway) - Posts: 981 - 09/11/2022 14:23:43 2446986 Link
I suppose all the pressure is on Crokes today. Ferris had a bad few minutes close to the end of the semi final with the kickouts although Moran was outstanding and deserves most of the credit for making it closer than it really ought to have been, Which of course raises the spectre of the last play against Kilcoo. He really ought not to have found himself in that situation but i think its fair to say it was a unique event, unlikely to be repeated! Apart from that. Crokes prior to that and for most games this year have been outstanding defensively and not conceded a goal outside of Dublin. Glen obviously a good team too, and had the plan to beat Kilcoo, Be interesting to see what tactics they bring today. If they can hold Crokes early and establish a lead it will be close but slightly favour Crokes although 4/7 is not that attractive.
