New Sunday Game Night Time Host.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It's time for Ref to get the job! They can black out his face like they do with interviewd people who want to remain anonymous. Unfortunately he wouldn't get past the Donnybrook Politically Correctness Police vetting procedure! Whoever gets the job they need to liven up the script. A new presenter, lovely suits and a fancy studio won't make it any more watchable if the analysis isn't good and there isn't some sense if humour in the discussions.

I actually think Daithi O'Se would be a good choice. I know people will state the obvious and say he'd be too pro-Kerry, but any experienced presenter should be far too slick for that (for instance, Michael Lyster was never over the top pro-Galway)."
And Des Cahill was never pro Dublin.

Darragh Maloney is an excellent host and a real natural. He would get my vote.

Daragh Maloney is an automatic choice to fill this vacancy as he ticks all the boxes, unfortunately because he didn't get the tap on the shoulder for the last appointment I would be more than surprised if he got it for this one, so for political reasons he will most likely lose out on this appointment as well, a real chance lost to get the show back on the road.

Give the job to Hector or Tommy Tiernan! At least it would be a bit of craic!

Agree. The GAA needs its flagship show but it also needs to have extended highlights of every match on a YouTube channel.
In addition, it needs to complete overhaul and not showing highlights of a match that was on live a few hours earlier.
And, to be totally frank, I couldn't care less about the opinion of the panel. Show me the highlights, next game.

Donnybrook for the long haul.
No 10 for the short stay.

I've no issue with them showing highlights of a match that was already shown live. If it was a fine Sunday when Wexford aren't playing, I wouldn't necessarily stay home to watch a match on telly instead of going on a family day out or even doing stuff like mowing the lawn. And the crowd actually at the match would like to see highlights that night too.

I do wish though that they'd go back to putting much more emphasis on highlights on whatever matches they're showing, and far less on analysis and punditry.

Here's the way it used to be - highlights of the 1988 Leinster Hurling semi-finals:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hjH6mI42Ns

Some 15 minutes of highlights of the first one, and more than 20 minutes of highlights of the second, with barely five minutes of analysis of either of them. It's almost exactly the other way around now.

Darragh is the best Gaelic games commentator by far on RTE, wouldn't like him to lose that role. He is not as natural commentating on soccer or as comfortable acting as anchor presenter. Jacqui is doing OK on radio but tends to exaggerate and over hype a bit much with her overuse of superlatives. If it is to be a female presenter with a revamped presentation maybe two presenters with different panels . How about Grainne McElwain with football coverage and Evanne Ni Chuillin presenting hurling highlights ?

Yeah they are up there with Ó Cinnnéide - an All Ireland winning captain and established radio and TV host.

Marie Crowe sound knowledgeable and appears to have a genuine feel for sport. So maybe a Grainne/Marie dual presentation … a Scotstown/Sixmilebridge production. Could also have a male/female team… it's just that two hours programme is heavy going for one presenter on those fixture congested mid Summer Sundays. Des did his best in fairness , sounds happier on the radio .

Main thing is RTE badly need to re-negotiate their deal with the GAA, 1 highlights show a week is not enough to cover the current volume of games, but I don't expect this to happen based on previous form.
