New Sunday Game Night Time Host.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Des Cahill is leaving the night time show. Who would people like to see replace him?

Who I think it should be is Dara Ó Cinnéide. But in reality it's more than likely going to be Jacqui Hurley.

I think RTE will give the job to a woman anyway, I'd be surprised if they don't. I'll miss oul Des, no harm to be rid of O'Rourke and Spillane though, McStay will continue to provide some entertainment out west.

Would love Shane Stapleton or Wooly Parkinson to get it but not a hope of that happening, reckon it will be either Jacqui or Damien Lawlor and would have faith in both to do a decent job, only concern is the direction RTE are going, everything is overly sanitised and I found their obvious agenda against the spilt season to be pretty embarrassing.

Pat was given the gig 10 or 12 years ago for a short while and he was atrocious, constantly interrupting guests and not letting them finish their points before moving on to the next one.

Sounds very like Jacqui Hurley.
Plenty of good replacements out there but I'm sure whoever gets it, she will be well deserving of it

Dara O'Cinnéide would be a great host.
Keep the likes of the Gooch, Cavanagh, Whelan and add people like Darran O'Sullivan, Finian Hanley and Eamon McGee. Enjoyed Darran's podcats with the two lads over the last year or so.

I really like Jacqui. I think she knows her stuff and can go with the flow of the programme. Thought her and Des were great on up for the match . One of the roving reporters was not so good in Kerry and should not be given a live segment ever again to interact with fans unless she seriously improves

Do I think there are people there just because the need to make up numbers? Yes but just in my opinion and I know many won't agree I think Jacqui is a good presenter/commentator

Let's not have this narrative of only women are making up the numbers because that's not true plenty of men on there that are as dull as dishwater. What gets me is sometimes they have a great guest on there commentating and they really know there stuff and have a voice for it . You need a voice for it (Monotone people should not be commentators/presenters ) and we never see that guest again

I'll miss Des .

Noel Cunningham might throw his hat in the ring.

This is a chance for RTE to revamp their entire Sunday game evening show model. The championship has changed, so they should follow suit. They should keep a Monday night review show along with a new midweek show. But knowing RTE, they wont. They will appoint a replacement from within the RTE corridor (probably a women or worse again Marty Morrissey) and they will keep the same rigid boring format that pleases nobody.

Also Des Cahill shouldn't be winging about the way the show was, he was one of the biggest problems and was happy to sit there for fifteen years getting paid a lot to do very little.

Whilst I agree that the show hasn't been up to much for some time, my work schedule dictates that I generally miss the live action, so it's a way of catching up on things, and better than nothing.
I actually think Daithi O'Se would be a good choice. I know people will state the obvious and say he'd be too pro-Kerry, but any experienced presenter should be far too slick for that (for instance, Michael Lyster was never over the top pro-Galway).

Apparently RTÉ have no rights to have mid week review/preview programme!
I'm sure it wouldn't cost them much to acquire such rights and then try and provide a sensible adult programme like Seó Spóirt on TG4.

Whatever happened to the Friday night shows? Some of them were actually quite good I thought.
