I don't understand how Mesth got home advantages and reach that stage of the competition, they were hammered by Kildare. beaten by Louth and only beat Westmeath by a few points. We beat Carlow and lost to Longford but then had to play away last night. Anyway it doesn't matter now. As they say goals wins game and that was the biggest underage football win in years

Was fairly bias alright. Kept referring to our sweeper as the reason we dominated play for long periods . There he is again now popping up in the forwards the midfield the hallf back line u get hecpoint the lad was everywhere . Was singing the praise of Fundge but was still thinking of giving msn of match to meath men. Despite the fore mentioned fudge being outstanding even outside his 3 goals plus

Just on the Meath question, I have family and friends involved in meath gaa and they tell me there was high expectations for this Meath team at the start of the year but they did struggle in the group stages getting through by beating westmeath, they told me during the week that they felt that may have been the catalyst to get going. I suppose a bit like us with hurling there's always those expectations but I get the sense they quietly thought this was a decent team.

But in saying that we shouldn't downplay the fact Meath we're at home also here in this game with wexford travelling up there to play them..

I was working in Dublin yesterday so rather than sit in traffic i went across to watch the game yesterday eve to meet up with a few of them and to say they were shocked doesn't even come close, even before that ending. Wexford were the better team, on top of what they did score they created another 3 clear goal scoring chances they really should have finished. Towards the end though they did look nervous along with a bit of fatigue, started to panic a small bit making errors they hadn't all game, Meath got on a run with the crowd behind thdm but still Wexford had the composure to get up there for what turned out to be the winning goal.

It was genuinely a cracking game of football, no cynicism or all out defence, both teams going out to play football. Decent crowd from Wexford there too which is nice to see.

On the topic of who's next one of the coaches told me it's Dublin and looks like it's a home game for Dublin (of course!) so Parnell Park next week.

Side note i believe there are a coupe of dual players . Great to see . They must be some hurlers as normally they get no choice . Pressure from fear of possible non selection usually stops them doing both .

He gave the scoreline wrongly a number of times during the first half as well - kept giving Wexford an extra point.

Might have stemmed from what looked a handy free early on in the game, but where the shot came back off the post - I reckon he probably had the score marked down before the kick was taken. Still, you'd think somebody would have corrected him.

Although it suits me as I live here, I cannot understand why Dublin are at home next week.. It may be a home and away arrangement but Leinster are really screwing us when you look at the fixtures for hurling and football. In hurling the so called Tier 2 are gauranteed home advantage in the knockout quarter finals of under 20 and minor so wexford end up with a trip to Westmeath or laois etc. in football we were in a group with Wicklow, carlow so I presume that is lower tier but when it comes to knockout there is no guarantee of home advantage..

Hughes and Rossiter are on both. It must be very tough for them. I think the change that was made this year to u14s only playing intercounty at one code or the other, which will now work up through the years ahead, is the way forwards though, as lads will be able concentrate on one or the other and hopefully be better at the one they chose when they get to adult. Hopefully this will be good for our county teams in the future.

I think from a Meath perspective, this current minor were viewed as weaker that what we usually have had.

We were well beaten by Kildare at home in the first game, and Louth were too strong second time out, - so really miles off it. Don't know how we ended up with home advantage either.

But by all accounts, it looks a pretty decent Wexford team, and had the knowhow to find that goal to win it at the end. Bit challenge ahead if it's Dublin next. But they've proven beatable at this level so best of luck!

Excuse me for butting in, but Parnell Park could almost be considered an away ground for the Dubs as well ?? Well done last night, by the way. Perhaps we will meet again ?

That debate has been rumbling on for years. When anyone claims that Dublin have a big advantage playing games in Croker, the standard Dubs reply is that Parnell Park is their home ground.
