Serious issues in Meath for last 20 years or so.

I think Colm was always fair when he was on the Sunday game and that is why he was kept so long.

Colm took the Job to keep BF out. They had no one else suitable and we will see Colm stating a lot "We are rebuilding".... for 3 years before he heads off himself

Navan is gone beyond a Joke at this stage and the CB got head of themselves, a new stand and terrace behind both goals was the Job 10 years ago or more maybe.

They ran a 3 house draw and made 180K, that will tell you the mess the whole place is in.

Get a CEO in like Dublin, roll some heads and then "Rebuild" but it suits us if you don't :)

I thought Dublin had drifted back into the pack?

We have but helpfully Meath have drifted at a similar pace the last year or two.

If Con was fit, you'd have beaten Kerry. So I'm not sure that Dublin have drifted that much backwards. Kerry are no great shakes (Clifford besides).

Yeah maybe but he wasn't.

I think football is quite open. The fact that this Dublin team was so close to Kerry this year has me agreeing with you that Kerry aren't miles ahead of the pack.

P Rourke is a great appointment for Meath and for Leinster football in general. He will improve Meath imo and its good for Dublin too and the neutrals. We all want to see a proper Dublin Meath rivalry.

It all depends on how much confidence that All Ireland win will give them. Limerick barely got over the line in 2018 but we all know what they have achieved since.

It depends on which pack you are talking about? There are a number of packs at this stage. In Leinster, Dublin are still a bit ahead of Kildare who are ahead of both Meath and Westmeath who are third and fourth. I would say that there isn't much between Meath and Westmeath at the moment which suggests that if Colm intends to compete and beat Dublin, he will need to find players that Meath haven't had in the last 20 years. While I think Colm O'Rourke is a good appointment in Meath; I think it is probably 20 years too late. It will be interesting to see but I don't think he has what it takes for intercounty level in 2022 and I don't think Meath have the players to compete against the best in Leinster never mind in Ireland. In terms of the Ireland picture - Kerry won the All Ireland but I wouldn't expect them to dominate going forward. They are probably in a group with Dublin, I would expect Tyrone to be back in the hunt. After that, you have Armagh and Galway who made good progress this year. It will be interesting to see if these two can push on and get to the next level. Derry are also ones to watch although I think they are limited and have a manager who is stuck in that old defensive mode which in my opinion won't win you the All Ireland as it may have done in the past. Derry might need a differe type of management to unleash them a bit; if they want to win the All Ireland.

Replying To Cbar:  "The best of luck to him, he comes across as a Gentleman.

What would be considered a success for him? What do Meath fans realistically hope he can achieve over the next 3 years?"
Its quiet hard at this stage to know what constitutes a successful management reign because its hard to know where other teams will be at 3 years from now and what quality of players will be available to COR 3 years from now.
For example in judging/ comparing Meath managers since Boylan left you have to take into account what quality of players were available to each manager (we had better players available 10/15 years ago than in recent seasons) and how strong Dublin were in the Jim Gavin era.
Up until recently I would have said getting to division 1 in the league was an important target but with the new form of the round robin championship (I still am not quiet sure how this will actually work until I see it in practice) this may not be as important in the future.
I'm delighted Colm got the job as he was an amazing and dedicated player for Meath who I think deserves his shot. Remembering him as a player he has very good leadership abilities. I think he was treated badly in not getting the role years ago, it should have been a no brainer bringing him in in the years after Sean Boylan.
Obviously the role nowadays has changed a lot from when he applied years ago, its a huge role involving overseeing a big backroom team but Colm is a smart guy so hopefully he will be good at this. Getting Colm in defiantly has brought a feel good factor back to Meath in the same way Glen Ryan did in Kildare when he came in.

Kerry were fairly anxious v Dublin, sat too much in second half inviting Dublin onto them. Sam won for them now, confidence boosted. There's not many counties that have better no great shakes than Kerry. Having a genius up front is only good when the supporting cast are in sync with him.

Great Great player would have won another all ireland if he had of started against Down but dont think he will make it as a manager depends on what team he puts together he seems to be totally out of touch with the modern game on rte but maybe thats a good reason to appoint him.

Iwould have to disagree with that , the man who replaced him that day was Gerry Mc Entee who in fact had a stomer that day, he actually got RTE radio man of the match, and was involved in a lot of Meaths scores ,I think if you take a look back at all of that match you will agree

Best of luck to O'Rourke! He was a great player. Will he make a great manager? Time will tell.

His management capacities would want to be well up on his punditry capacity. He was great for the first 10-15 years as a pundit, but became cliched and didn't keep up to date with changes in the game. If he engages like that in management, then it's Div 4 and An Tailteann for the royals.

Hope he does well though, as I'd like to see Meath win Sam in the next 4-5 years.

Great win for the royal ladies. They play great football. Hopefully, O' Rourke and the men's team can take a leaf out of their book. They've put some pride back in the royal jersey anyway.

.

It's certainly possible.

Perhaps the Derry or Armagh boys could be persuaded through an intermediary like say Regina Doherty to give a loan of it to the Orange Order to take south for a July 12th gig at the Boyne. As part of a post reunification reconciliation thing.

No, you are right, that was the 1991 All-Ireland final, I think Meath were down by something like 11 pts when he came on. They ended up losing by 2
