Certainly has the knowledge and experience, a good appointment seems to me anyway.

Brave at age 65 and having never managed a senior county team before,

Taking it on at 65 next month is a brave call. Best of luck to him.

O'Rourke was a great player and if he is as good as a manager there could be good days ahead for Meath.

Very surprised to see my old 'pal' take this on. Does he know something we don't? We'll soon find out!

The best of luck to him, he comes across as a Gentleman.

What would be considered a success for him? What do Meath fans realistically hope he can achieve over the next 3 years?

Good appointment. Taking a leaf out of our book and I expect Colm will choose his selectors from within the county too.
It won't happen overnight though and hopefully he will get the time required/ Leinster badly needs Meath to be competitive too.

At least it might get him off the Sunday Game for a while…… I wonder would anyone take Fitzmaurice on…?

Interesting and surprising choice for me. Really will be interesting. Surely his time was 25 years ago though. Fair play to him for taking it now. No doubting his passion for Meath but he must regret not getting it after Boylan. Has plenty of coaching experience I know but inter county in this era and at the top end of the game where he'll want Meath to be is a different planet. Meath will kick the ball plenty I'm sure and he'll give an opportunity to some hardy fellas who like a manly game of football. Will need someone astute to lead the tactical approach though. Just can't see that there's a breakthrough coming for Meath though but at 65 he probably feels he can't leave it behind him now and has to take it on.

Indeed. Well 3 Leinster minor titles in last number of years and one all Ireland title at same grade would suggest the talent is coming through. But for first couple of years he will have to do what Andy did before him and just keep things steady. The Meath supporters are very impatient. But really this is just a holding exercise for Colm and his back room team (who if rumours are right is very impressive) until those players arrive on senior scene. The talent that is coming through is serious, and more of them will commit to remaining in football knowing Colm is the senior manager. A v good appointment. But we must be patient. I'm sure Colm will judge that only a all Ireland will do in his tenure. But there's a lot of turns in that road before we reach the promised land.

If rumours are true. He's already in Meath with Colm.

3 Leinster minor titles and last year all ire minor winners would suggest there is a definite possibility of Meath making the breakthrough.

Colm O'Rourke already has the experienced intercounty manager aura. A classy player in his pomp. Don't know much about his coaching but tasted success with Simonstown and St Pat's. Assuming he's retired from the principal job, looks a great appointment for Meath GAA.
