But Cody definitely had the upper hand on Tipperary in his time, he won a few semifinals also. Overall in championship against Tipperary as manager he won 7, lost 3 (inc last 2 meetings) and drew 1. This was a reversal of the previous historic trend of the rivalry.

It's interesting that the Munster hurling counties used to say Kilkenny would have not have won as many all Irelands had they been located in Munster but then Kilkenny's most successful era coincided with the back door era when if good enough more than one Munster team would get a shot at beating them.

Looking at Wikipedia Limerick have the edge in finals but in all championship Limerick have won 6 and lost 9 against Kilkenny. Didn't look at all counties but appears Tipp is the only county with positive record in the head to head against Kilkenny.

Absolutely correct there. Traditionally, Tipp had the upper hand over Kilkenny but that was reversed under Cody. It's 3 all though in All Ireland Finals between Kilkenny under Cody and Tipp with as you say Tipp winning the last two 2016 and 2019 and also 2010. Kilkenny beat Tipp in 2009, 2011 and 2014 replay.

Correct. Tipp are the only county who have beaten Kilkenny more times in Championship hurling.

Well Clare won two League Finals in the 70s and took KK to a replay in another and beat Limerick and had a few titanic Munster Finals with Cork in that decade. Galway contested two All Ireland's in that decade and won a League in 74 and Waterford knocked in '74 and ran Limerick the reigning champs to a single point. So the field was hardly as narrow as you say before 80.

Finals are the year's show piece game all right and it's a feather in Limericks cap that you have a positive record in finals (5-4) against Kilkenny but clearly Kilkenny obviously have the edge overall in their rivalry against ye (6-9). We have lost 11 out of 17 AI finals reached CC. Its not a great record. Limerick have only lost 9 out of 20.

Well of course Offaly do have a 50 per cent record against KK on AIFs also and Galway have the upper hand against LK in Finals also. Of course LK have a perfect record against Dublin, Waterford and Cork also in Finals. We have never met Tipp on an AIF, but we met them in three League Finals and won all three. However, and this remark is made with total respect to KKs splendid Hurling Tradition, we are a little chuffed on Old Shannonsidr that we have seen off the Cats in Finals in five different decades, three different Centuries and two different Millennia.
