6 points down at half time I think but that looked an insufficient lead given the wind but with stats of 19 wides for Galway against 6 for Dublin there's no doubt the best team won.

Well done to your lads and see you in the Nell next Saturday . I think the convoluted draw might have led to an element of shadow boxing but it was good to see us both get wins nonetheless.

Great result by Dublin. Didn't see this coming and especially when they went 9 points down. Great sign. I had Galway as 5/6 points better than the rest in Leinster followed by Kilkenny (with a full team), Dublin and then Wexford. Dublin have an amazing record in Leinster u20/21 the last 15 years and probably on par with Kilkenny in Leinster over that period. The jump to senior just seems not to happen for some reason (choosing football obviously a big factor in that I know) Throughthemidfieldhewasstormin (Wexford) - Posts: 277 - 08/04/2023 17:03:57 2469586 Link 2 |
Wouldn't be at all surprising to see a 4 way tie.

You say the big 4 will be through no matter what. How does that work? Could you explain the format cos there's nothing on the leinster gaa website to explain it. It does seem strange to have 4 strong teams in the same group unless the top 2 go straight to the final.

Top 2 straight into the semis. Bottom 2 into the QFs.

The 3rd and fourth in Tier 1 play the winners of Tier 2 and Tier 3 in quarter finals. Then most likely the four Tier 1 teams in the semi finals! BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3118 - 08/04/2023 17:52:15 2469601 Link 1 |
Fine win in u-21 today. I'd say Dublin will take Galway in senior as well this year. MOD will time the fuse perfectly for an explosion against his former county. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2095 - 08/04/2023 19:30:04 2469632 Link 0 |
For a start its under 20 and not a hope in hell will ur seniors beat us this year

Sure there never is :-) I wouldn't be confident about Dublin beating Galway this year myself, but today was a good day so won't be worrying too much about that for now, BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3118 - 08/04/2023 20:39:23 2469643 Link 0 |
Of course our seniors won't. We don't have a team here in the USA, duh!

Dublin beat us in 4 senior championship matches between 2011 and 2021. They seem to relish playing Galway. We have absolutely no reason to be complacent against them.

Fantastic result for the u20s. Some excellent players there, great hope for the future. Hope they dont play football too! bad.monkey (USA) - Posts: 4643 - 08/04/2023 21:12:05 2469651 Link 1 |
That's the thing. Several do for their clubs obviously but not sure if they are on football panel. They probably don't have dual even at that age. Dublin do have good record at senior v Galway and from going to games and talking to some Galway supporters, we were rarely given a chance! Not sure if that seeped into the team, but one thing's for certain is that a Henry Shefflin team doesn't do arrogance or taking anyone for granted. When we beat Galway before we had a very good team - as in Anthony era, or were very well prepared and got the match ups right. I honestly don't think we have the means at this stage to do the same this year. Hope I'm wrong of course. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3118 - 09/04/2023 10:13:36 2469680 Link 0 |
Great result for u20's, but I fear teams know they'll make the semi finals regardless of what team they put out. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1259 - 10/04/2023 10:16:39 2469959 Link 0 |
The only game they ought to be even thinking about is the first one in Belfast on April 22. Bookies have Dublin at 1/4. I'd make that 1/2. Antrim will see this as their best, and perhaps only chance of beating anyone other than Westmeath, and will have trained solely with this on their mind. Perhaps a good job that they got a bit of a fright when Antrim got the two late goals in Parnell in league, and hopefully they come through with a win and without any more injuries. Yeah in fairness there never is a hope in hell we'll beat you and yet we've managed to pull a few out of the bag over the years. On league form it's looking very unlikely this year though. Trying to get into third place above Wexford is probably the most we can hope for

You beat them less than 2 years ago Barney.

A good point alright, if we can win that one it'll set us up nicely for a rattle at Wexford.

I think they should have another scalp at least in their minds. Any team that goes up there is going to be in some battle. Always love to see Dublin going well too but would love to see Antrim come and shake things up in Leinster. Its a shame they have 3 away games. If Dublin can get over Antrim, they have two winnable home games directly after which could leave them in a great position with other teams likely to take points off each other. Like most teams this year though we dont really know where Dublin are at, at the min tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 14/04/2023 09:58:56 2470928 Link 0 |
