Replying To Breffni40:  "You're gonna start spoofing about communism now aren't you?

I don't reckon a lot of people around the world know what will happen if Ireland has a Sinn Fein government rather than a Fianna Fail or Fine Gael one. I think that's a bit of a stretch to be honest."
No one needs to spoof about communism!

Sinn Féin have been part of running the north - something that was never part of any republican plan i ever heard of, but there you go - for the guts of 20 years. They were part of probably the worst ever city council in Dublin for 5 years, the consequences of which are still not fully visible. That's enough for me.

Not to mention the fact that the only way they will ever get into power is either through a coalition with one of the parties you hate, or with the support of actual communists who will turn the country into Kampuchea circa 1976.

We are not going to have a SF gov anytime soon, FF/FG will not go in with them and as a junior partner, bit like the DUP in the wee north now won't go in and have a SF first minister,
now I can't for the life of me understand why anyone votes for the Greens, but we are likely to get the same gov returned again next time even though SF might have the most seats, if nobody is willing to go in to gov with them they'll be in opposition again.
I don't think there's much difference between FG/FF, one is as crooked as the other,
SF are strong on the reunification question, seem to have good ideas for housing etc. they have some brilliant politicians too and we have 2 of the very best of them here in Donegal, I hope they get into power but it's hard to see how the numbers will stack up in reality.

Good ideas for housing..
Are you mad?
They, like Labour and the SDs object to housing developments all over the place!!
Populism at its worst, not to mention cutting taxes and increasing public spending.
God between us and small farmers....

What good ideas have SF on housing?

There are more than 40,000 people officially homeless in north where they've been part of running for 20 years. housing in Dublin city is dominated by high rise one and two bed build to rents approved while they were biggest party and their spokesperson supports a 25,000 cap on new builds to prevent "climate change"!

They only look good in comparison to what's there now, God help us.

If anyone gives a vote to that Green brigade in the next election they would seriously want to get their heads examined…..

Someone is voting for them as they continue to win their seats and share power in goverment.
Perhaps some voters are colour blind.

Maybe because unlike the rest the Greens believe in something?
Also young well heeled urbanites will continue to vote for them.

Yes. If the far left was to take power here. Do you ever read or listen to what they want to do? Not talking about the Shinners now, but the ones they want to go into government with.

Of course if they do go into government it will be more likely with one of the current other big parties. So either a disastrously huge change, or no change :-) Look at the north. They even gave up on their main objective to get into Stormont.

Believing in something is not enough without an appropriate qualification.

Well heeled urbanites were once turf cutting ruralites, they will remember their roots.

To get away from heated political debate, who do people fancy for Cheltenham next week?

Only bet is on Impaire Et Passe in the Ballymore on Wednesday. If he's anywhere as good as he's looked so far, and with the confidence behind him from the Kilkenny boys, he'll be hard beat.

Hopefully, Honeysuckle will win the mare's hurdle on the first day but not going to back her at 2/1.

Sure isn't that why they brought back Bertie.

I don't go too deep in politics, just that I would have heard Eoin O'Broin on tv a fair few times and he seems to have ideas on sorting the housing problem, the other crowd have been in power in various forms forever so I think a lot of people would like to see SF get a crack at it and see what they can do.
Of course if they go in with FF or FG their policies will be well watered down, I can't see those left wing parties/groups ever getting enough seats to have a leftish wing gov with SF.
Also I don't think your point on the wee north is a fair one, the purse strings are controlled from London and they were trying to govern with the Dup, it's not a normal gov in there where they can raise taxes etc to do what they want to do, saying that the 6 counties should be thriving with having full access to both the EU and UK market.

I like the cut of Facile Vega in the novices hurdle despite the recent blip.
I fancy El Fabiolo in the Arkle.
In the Champion Hurdle it's hard to look beyond Constitution Hill, maybe an e/w bet on I Like To Move It.
In the mare's hurdle it'd be a lovely story if Honeysuckle can win but I just feel she's been on the wane for a while now. Marie's Rock (nap) for me here.

Facile Vega being backed like it can't lose. Going to watch after the "recent blip" as you put it. Hopefully the Mullins horses go well as an indication of what to expect tomorrow from Impaire. There's been a few quid for Gaelic Warrior and Champ Kiely too, but the vibes from them is that Impaire is a good bit ahead of both. Townend didn;t have to spend a minute choosing, Hermes was impressive last time, so between them two.

I Like To Move It let me down big time time before last. Unpredictable but could well run into a place. Bookies only going 2 places and he's only 2/1 to be in first three on exchanges which is not great value. Going to watch what ought to be a canter for the Henderson horse.

Best of luck..
For the record, I quite fancy Tahmuras to cause an upset in the first.
And Jamie Codd to save the day (again) on Chemical Energy in the last...
