It is a psychological or even psychiatric condition that often requires professional intervention. Could just as easily have been another "hate" motivation apparently but of course no one knows what the motivation was. Presumably the police have good reason to rule out at least one of the suggestions. Rather depressing how certain politicians have seized upon it in order to stir things up.
