I think it is that and the two years he took off to do his apprenticeship. He took an awful beating as a kid in the 2017 final and had a bad ankle injury in that game. Even though he has not been sent off I would be concerned the way he is swing the hurley in frustration. One handed swipes to block. He was a star earlier. The year of the under 21 win his mom picked him up outside the school after doing his leaving. Drove to Cork as the bus was gone and he scored 2-4 from play.

Are you saying they are not ill disciplined? Look at the long line of red cards for various offences over the last number of years. If you disagree after that fair enough. Enough people do care, even if you dont. Can't remember anyone making a show of themselves.

No Kieran Bennett unlikely to start if everyone is fit. Conner Gleeson is much closer and I think might be ahead of McNulty but I'd still think Ian Kenny is better than both all round plus Kenny is the only one who actually plays corner back for his club.

When the 3 lads started out I thought Shane would be the star of the trio. Thought Stephen would be a good but not great player and Kieran a panel player at best. Shane had a bad injury did he?

Good opinion. Gleeson would give you a big man in the middle but it is going to be hard to let D. Lyons out with that work rate. Jamie is a great player but if not recovered cover for him is okay. It will be hard to give Callum Lyons the position Jack Fagan is now playing but like you said Jack could go midfield. Though a good problem to have. Conor Gleeson seems to be back where he started a good man marker. Anthony Daly says that Austin missing will be the difference in Cork winning. If that is the reason we are beaten then we are not where we want to be or think we are. Cork can beat us with or without him and we need to be able to perform with or without him. Gleeson did very well on Rory O Connor although Rory was lacking his usual zip. Kenny is a proper old fashioned sticky cornerback though.

Countering your silly b.s. would be just disrespectful to the Wexford posters but now part of your problem you have identified. Amnesia. Remembering. You have probably forgot where you from and Wexford lads can breathe a sigh of relief. Thanks for the head's up. Head being the punt.

Countering b.s? You mean countering valid points? Just because of their on field issues which I have pointed out, don't take it out on other posters. I am full well aware what that Meath poster is talking about. However what I pointed out about Ballygunner being a 'superclub' was not making a show of myself.

Don't give oxygen to idiots lads. Oh and BTW i lived in Ballygunner for seven years and still have a house there. There no more a superclub than any other club. I can state that for a fact. I bought my house from Brian Flannery who played for Mount Sion, but lived in the Ballygunner parish.. Are Mount Sion a super club... I'm sure we could make this case for clubs in Limerick, Galway, Cork and Dublin City also.. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1981 - 31/03/2022 16:25:52 2408723 Link 0 |
How long ago was that Brian? For the last number of years they are pulling players from all over the city. And have them out as far as Cheek Point also playing for them. I have closer ties in Ballygunner than you would imagine. Hope Brian Flannery done a good deal on the house for you.

Cheekpoint is 10 minutes from Ballygunner 5 or so from Passage and always a choice made for who to play with. Mount Sion have also drawn players from outside. Brian himself, Anthony Kirwan from Portlaw, Michael White from Dunhill. John MacDonald from Mullinavat. Shane Ahearne Ferrybank and before that Senan Sutton from KIlmacow, Martin Geary (Limerick) lived in Tramore. Missed many more probably. That is what happens in areas where the employment is located. The players in West Waterford tend to stay with their place of birth more like Kilkenny , Wexford and other places. Also in fairness they tend to be very loyal to their parishes. If the Bennett's went down the road and played with Lismore they would probable be unbeatable, in Waterford anyway. However Ballygunner can be proud of what they have built and if the population of Ballysaggart goes from 300 to 13,000 good luck to them. Let's wait and see. You're more in the know than me but I'd still be shocked if he doesn't started. He was too good and consistent last year to be back as a player we see off the bench. League final won't tell us where Waterford are in my opinion. From a tipp perspective I'd be very worried about the first round of the cship. It's a huge game for both as a win in round 1 puts you in a great position to get out of Munster. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 31/03/2022 18:23:37 2408753 Link 0 |
I always thought that he'd keep Stephen out of the team, but Stephen Bennett has just upped his game massively the last year.

I think that's a very important point you made about Ian Kenny playing in the corner for Ballygunner too. Most guys would be pushed up the lines a bit a club level from the corner. There's a lot to be said for a specialist corner back.

Not sure how bad his injury was but we were always bad at sending a boy out to do a man's job. John Galvin played senior at 16 and Pat MCGrath (ken's dad) at 17 I believe. Believe it or not Stephen's injuries were much more severe. Both hips operated on and one twice. In a sense that may have help him not be playing too soon but he will probable have a shortened career.

Iarlaith Daly must be injured but his young brother starts. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 3039 - 01/04/2022 21:13:17 2408984 Link 0 |
It's a stronger team than I was expecting. Calum Lyons at midfield is interesting and could be the main reason why Fagan has been moved to wing back. Although Lyons might still switch with C. Daly, I think he might mark D. Fitzgibbon in midfield. PullHard7 (Waterford) - Posts: 53 - 02/04/2022 08:33:45 2408993 Link 0 |
Midfield battle could be great if Lyons starts on fitzgibbon..is it possible fagan might swap with Lyons..going by teams picked waterford might be able to take advantage of cork full back line..really looking forward to a great game.. tiobraid I am glad you, Limerick, Cork and Wexford and other counties come on this site and join in the conversation about Waterford. It brings balance and keeps us on the straight.
