I think we are capable of taking Cork but we simply can not be as wide open down the middle as we have been in previous games. We are very erratic at the minute.
Replying To 1951andwaiting: "Loftus called into the squad on the back of displays at 6 for his club, then he's moved to 11 for the county, !!!!!!!!! If he's not good enough for 6, then leave him on the bench .... don't try and find a place for him elsewhere, carney, flynn and tuohy must be poor in every match because every team runs through us !!!"
Kuba Callaghan was in the squad earlier based on club form. That doesn't mean he's good enough for inter County. Loftus a great servant and can still add something but not starting at 6.
Bonkers game on Saturday, players were wrecked and all supporters were wrecked as well, a typical Mayo game. Mayo's lack of physicality is really costing them, players around the middle are not strong enough to stop runners and Cork will do exactly what Meath did and run straight at Mayo. Flynn and Carney, they really are two forwards playing midfield, they are able to score 2 pointers and Carney was kicking good ball into the forwards, but defensively they were both poor. Even Hession who was one of the best players the last evening, showed great leadership and vital 2 points before half time, but he some bad turnovers, one led to a Meath goal. Conroy gave away a few balls but eventually came into it and got a few great scores, now he must have the confidence to push on. I'm not sure has any player being consistently good, maybe Livingston.
Cork have a 2 big midfielders, just like Tyrone and Meath and they will cause trouble unless they are matched physically. Cork will get of to a fast start as they are fresh so Mayo just need to hang in for first while and wait for there second wind. Not good with Durcan and Beirne going off in the first half, and then Flynn near the end, be interesting to see how they fare out, I don't think we will know exactly till throw in if they are fit or not.
