Walsh Cup Final Dublin V Wexford

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

No matter what happens in the final fair play to Dublin and Wexford for beating Kilkenny and Galway to get to the final. Hopefully both teams can carry this form into the championship in the Summer and both reach a Leinster final - it probably should have happened last year. These kind of results are great for Leinster hurling.

Obviously I will be shouting for Wexford but I wouldn't begrudge Dublin a win as they are a very competitive side

Really looking forward to this. No-one seems certain when it is. Have seen both Saturday evening and Sunday mentioned. Would make sense for it to be on before the football league game if Wexford had no objections.

I'd say both are delighted with this game. Perfect tee up for the league and a chance to throw the eye over one another for the first time in a while.

Wexford didn't beat Kilkenny.

Hi its gas Barney, last week it was looking like they'd be only 5000 in attendance in Croke Park for yer game against Armagh and now its a double header, how quick things have changed thankfully :-)

Great for both teams to take stock and build some momentum. The early rounds of these competitions are not too important the same as the league but when you get to finals it seems to up the anti considerable.

Dublin have been fielding strong teams whereas wexford have tried out 6/7 new players to senior inter county in both their games so far. I hope we continue in experimental mode on Saturday. Would be great to give the newer guys a runout in croke park and help their development further. Dublin to win and darragh egan to know more about whether the new faces have potential for the league and championship

Definitely agree about giving some of the new lads a start at Croker. The established players like Dee, Chin, Liam og etc will all need to get gametime during the league to get up to speed though.

Will be interesting to see who they both name. Getting close to league now so either a last chance to give likely starters a run, OR alternatively to see lads who are still possibilities but relatively new.

Bookies pricing indicates this uncertainty I'd say!

I'd like to see them both have a good cut at it. It's a cup at the end of the day, and winning is always a good thing. Good habit.

If it's as entertaining as the game in the Park last Saturday it will be a good game to watch in it's own right!

What team is liking to line out for us on Saturday lads ?
I think I'd mix young with experience . Big test ahead next weekend against Limerick so some of our more experienced players will need game time Saturday . I'd go with
Fanning
Shane Reck ( last Wexford game kept T Kelly very quiet)
Ryan
Devitt ( Deserves another chance has done well)
Flood
Foley
Hanlon ( man mark Gearoid Hegarty next week possibly)
Kevin Foley
Dunbar/ Dee O Keeffe
Oisin Foley
Rory O Connor (if fit)
Jack O Connor
Cian Byrne
Conor Mac
Paul Morris

Thought Morris looked sharp enough when he came on the last day. Maybe give Dunne or Dwyer a start in the corner. Thought MOH looked fairly good too so maybe start another of the younger lads wing back or Jacko. Or Cullen if hes fully fit. Or Damien Reck to give him some gametime before the League. That's assuming Sean Murphy and Bailey are still injured. And give McGukin another start if Rory is still out.

I'd go with the same team as started v Kilkenny. Shane reck did his hamstring according to his father on south east radio and Rory O'Connor is hurling fitz gibbon cup if fit so I'd hold him back til the Limerick game. Otherwise play Dee o' instead of kevin foley. Thought the performance disimproved when the changes were made last Saturday

I'd agree to start McGuckian again if Rory is out . Also Jack Cullen if he is fit and involved . Everyone has been looking forward to seeing if he can make the step up

We've 2 tough games in following weekends playing Limerick and then travelling to Ennis so team selection will be interesting.

Imagine Oilgate players will get a run, Shane Reck played the Leinster final vs Naas but that was his 1st game after a 3 month absence.

Huge demand for tickets for the two games on Saturday. Estimates of 40,000 or more!

Which will guarantee a crowd of 10,000+ for the hurling final. Should be a good night.

Looking forward to it depends on teams that are put out. Hopefully the likes of oisin foley and Conor devett play and hurl well, especially in croker.

No hint of a team here yet. I'd imagine Mattie will go with something like the 15 he will start against Waterford Sunday week. That's one of the games in Parnell that they'll be targeting for a win and a good start to the league.

There's very little respite from here on in with the truncated season so not a lot of margin for error. Great chance to give new lads a run but can't see either being overly adventurous tomorrow,

Be good to see a good few of the younger lads get a run out there. Hopefully be a good crowd and atmosphere there!
