This is an important game for the season today. I can't see us staying in division one but 2 wins in the league might give the lads some confidence for the ulster championship. Roscommon has to be one of those wins. We look like we need more physicality in the central areas of the pitch. After the retirements of the Hughes, Kieran duffy, finty kelly and these lads over the last few years we have to get some big physical players in. Are there any big physical lads that could join the panel from the likes of Drumhowan, Oram, Aghabog etc.. clubs that are known for physicality? Bannigan has a panel of close to 50 players, whatever we have is on the panel. Anyone at the game, listened to it on N sound and as positive as Fergal & Dessie tried to keep it it sounded like our defence was shocking, 5-6 goal chances? When's the last time any of these clubs produced a starting player for the county? Magheracloone, Latton, Clontibret, Scotstown, Ballybay and occasionally the Harps, Tyholland and Blayney have long been the backbone of the county - outside of that the odd exception comes from other clubs that rarely produce much. Hard luck today to Monaghan. No more than ourselves you were missing a lot of players but ye definitely improved vastly from last week's game against Armagh. Roscommon deserved today's win but Monaghan were very competitive throughout and I've no doubt ye'll improve dramatically as the year goes on. Its very difficult when injuries keep coming but from that younger players are blooded which is vital. Still early days in the league. Nothing to say you can't get a result in Dublin in two weeks time and depending on other results there could be a lot of teams hovering around relegation. Not a certainty yet that the league is done for Monaghan. Wouldn't it be great if both Roscommon and Monaghan could avoid relegation. Its 2024 all over again folks defensive errors easy goals given away imagine what kerry or donegal will do to that defehce. We will regroup in div 2 next year and probably do alright through so not hugely concerned long term. We just can't compete in div 1 without our first 15 We do need a win or two in this division however before the summer for confidence or it will be a short one. Theres a big opportunity to get to an ulster final. Bit of perspective needed here, Struggling in div 1 is a problem 24 other counties would love to have so it's not the end of the world.. div 2 football is where this team is at.. a good crop of u20s coming through in the next year or 2 and div 2 will be a good breeding ground for these lads…however one worry is the excuse culture that seems to be in full swing with GB, this seeps into players mindsets…every team is missing players…bottom line is the team looks unfit and shorn of pace in key positions… mick2007 (Monaghan) - Posts: 640 - 01/02/2026 22:06:04 2654478 Link
