I have been astounded about the sense of fear and caution around the county about this fixture. We are a div 1 team and down are a div 3 team. They are no better than Louth and we dismantled Louth with ease. Down have 2/3 decent players and apart from that they are bang average. They stayed with donegal for 40 mins then fell away, we stayed with donegal for the full game and could have got something from it, that shows where both teams are. Would a Tyrone/Donegal/Armagh be fearing down as much, not a chance. In essence we should cruise through this with a facile 5/6 point victory, but then again we are from Monaghan and we are capable of producing anything!!! monaghanmad (Monaghan) - Posts: 413 - 14/06/2025 13:01:10 2617331 Link 0 |
"For anyone that would be on the fence, thinking we should be better because Monaghan are Division One and Down are Division Three, that's crap" The words of the great Paul Finlay and I agree. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded. ORIELMAN85 (Monaghan) - Posts: 609 - 14/06/2025 13:04:33 2617332 Link 0 |
Obviously you dont attend many games or you wouldnt describe 5/6 point victory margin as facile under the new rules. We shoukd win but as Paul Finlay says anyone who thinks it will be easy is talking crap.

I think we'll win too, but it's also a classic set up for a surprise. Meath hammering Kerry today is a reminder that at this stage anybody can beat anybody. It's a big prize for the winners so both teams might be jittery. We're a team with areas of huge strength and talent but some real weaknesses (one of which, midfield athleticism, is made a lot worse by Mohan being out) and they're a team that's efficient, works very hard, and is well organised... I think it'll come down to our accuracy and our composure under their tackle pressure. Keep calm and kick 2pters... I wouldn't be surprised to see Down ahead at half time, but then for us to get more space and get past them in the second half as they start to tire. Nobody is saying it will be easy, it will be hard work but we really should I i do really believe we will win by 9+points. We're just a better team and in a better place, no disrespect to Down but we are and we need to be all seeing this so that we can be comfortable when we reach a semi final and not thinking the semi is enough (i know the semi is mine 2 games away and possibly 3 games away) farneygael (Monaghan) - Posts: 309 - 14/06/2025 20:39:28 2617471 Link 0 |
Dublin and Cork and number 3 seeds. Neither would be easy. Win is essential to top the group. Dublin look to be getting all their main players into form especially with Con back. Cork are a big and physical team, won't be easy for anybody. MrPBoylan (Monaghan) - Posts: 252 - 14/06/2025 21:45:41 2617510 Link 0 |
