Some of the actions of the younger supporters were appalling yesterday and have been throughout the championship, throwing flares onto the pitch endangering players and other supporters, hurling abuse at opposition players. There is no place for this kind of behaviour in our games and especially not on the biggest day in the footballing calendar in our county. Hopefully the county board will take some sort of action monman246 (Monaghan) - Posts: 95 - 28/10/2024 10:55:27 2577319 Link 1 |
''Scotstown GAA have unfortunately noted that there has been some inappropriate behaviour by supporters behind the goals at recent games. We are asking that all our supporters show respect to our club and our club colours by avoiding such circumstances this weekend. Instead, we want all our supporters to be together in the stand on Sunday afternoon, where as a collective we can make our voices heard and support the lads on the pitch.'' I was watching on clubber and at 2 stages in the game blue flairs were on the pitch and the umpires had to dispose of them during a break in play. With a club of 45'000 juveniles it is very hard to police them in their defence

Few young ones singing and banging a few drums! Few flares to celebrate … sure may as well add that nail to the scotstown coffin too! Few of you lads wouldn't have much to do If it wasn't for scotstown bashing!

If scotstown get over fermanagh champions as expected and Kilcoo get over crosserlough as expected its gonna set up a cracker of a semi final... currinman (Monaghan) - Posts: 39 - 28/10/2024 17:04:16 2577360 Link 0 |

Best of luck to the 3 teams representing Monaghan in the Ulster club championships against Fermanagh opponents, who should not be underestimated, especially at intermediate and junior level mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1053 - 28/10/2024 19:29:31 2577377 Link 0 |
I am sorry but the Fermanagh standard is atrocious, particularly at Inter & Junior level. If anything Monaghan need to be complimented how far we are ahead of most other Ulster counties at all levels. Barring the obvious

Suggestion for the championship and league formats for 2025. What is noticeable in the club scene in Monaghan is how bad the league and championship relegation format is. An example tyholland winning 1 game in the league and then in relegation playoffs beat blackhill to stay up, and then the same in the championship. Is the fairest system what seems to work in other counties is to have clubs only go up and down by their championship and league performances.? Can keep the championship the way it is or just the 2 bottom teams in each group play in a final to go down but if you finish the bottom of the league you are down with no more chances. But you can still stay up in the championship. Wambamalam (Monaghan) - Posts: 17 - 29/10/2024 17:26:00 2577497 Link 0 |
Can't see it working. The old league format in my opionion was still the best. Your proposal went to covnention about eight years ago and was defeated.

Not to mention also Blayney and Inniskeen hurlers playing Armagh teams in the Ulster hurling championships

And how far ahead is that?

Regular winners of inter / junior and contesting senior finals. That far.

I always found the Monaghan league and championships a strange one. There's not many counties that award a team for losing a county final by promoting them to the higher up championship!! I just don't get it. If you win the league you're promoted in the league. Same goes for championship. They should not be tied in together.

Wouldn't say regular. Would say occasional

There was a good article in the Sunday Times by Christy O'Connor at the weekend about the length of the Kerry club season. With club, divisional and regional championships. There was mention on here before that we should adopt the Kerry system but it seems now like the county players in are pushing back on the amount of games they are asked to play in. Tyrone have contested 2 senior club finals in the last 22 years. The best championship in Ireland... or UK.
