A very good win but the second goal was a really poor one to concede.
On the plus side, they should be well able to put it up to whoever they are playing the next day.

Neither Lavelle or Mulligan were named in the program. Are they injured?

A Championship win, in convincing fashion, not without one or two learning points.
That was a solid result that will mature in the system - a few others are succumbing to provincial championship gravity.

Replying To mhunicean_abu:  "A good weekend for the County as you predicted, although the Ladies were always up against it. Both our Senior and minor teams will be hard to beat going forward.

The seniors had a good workout against a very poor Down team, they did what they had to do and the 2 goals conceded, while taking the gloss off the victory, may well be a blessing in disguise, to focus the minds against complacency, which has cost this team over the years.
I was particularly delighted that Jack got MOTM, carrying on from an impressive league. I can think of only one forward having a better season than him, half way through the season. So much for the "sheep in a heap" analysts that say he only performs in the league, given the impact his injuries have had in his championship campaigns to date. I would have given the honour to Kearns yesterday, thought he was back to his best. Mohan is a real find at full forward, more kick passing please
Anyway this squad should fear no one and IMO have a free shot at an Ulster title, expectations are on Tyrone and/or Donegal. If we beat Tyrone (who would be hot favourites) we will beat Donegal or Cavan in the final at home providing there is no nonsense. Do disrespect intended to Derry.

All in all good preparation for both teams for the future, thougher tests await as it should be"
Totally agree re Kearns, he had a great game yesterday. Mohan was excellent too and gives us something totally different though the team will have to adapt their attacking style to get the best from him. I expect him to have a MOTM performance soon and come to national prominence. Meeting Derry just after they've beaten Tyrone is the perfect fixture. That was their All-Ireland and it's hard to see them being at the same level the next day.

Derry will run through that Monaghan defence like a dose of salts. Derry by 6 or 7 points.

I'm not too sure about Mohan, to me he seems like a show pony. He has the physical attributes of a full forward but skill wise am not too sure. He tends to fall over himself a lot and miss kicks a good few balls or sloppy hand/kick passes.
With Gallagher over Derry and the past heartbreak he's had due to Monaghan he will have the Derry players pumped, in their eyes if they can beat the A.I champions comforatble (won't mention tyrone performance on the day) they can beat anyone. If it was Monaghan in the same position as Derry I'd be hoping so too.
Albeit you'd have us down to be favourites especially considering we had a half hearted attempt last weekend and still came away comfortable winners. Think we had 10 different scorers which for a (past) Monaghan team is rare.
Niall Kerans was my MOTM he left 110% out on the field hence why he was probably taken off. He had the most touches of the ball and seemed to be involved in a lot of plays both attacking and defending.
Really excited about our campaign now however if there is a defeat along the line I wouldn't be as comfortable going throught the qualifiers stages as before seen as there is already big teams in them.

Only problem with Mohan is that when he is used as a target man, and loses the ball, he opens us up to getting caught by a swift counter attack. I know conditions were tricky on Saturday, but he must have dropped more than he won. Hopefully on a dryer day he'll make then stick. Good to have a different option.

The way he's going, seems like only injury can stop McCarron this year. We can only hope.

Mansy was very quiet, hopefully not carrying an injury or anything?

K Hughes had a great game on Saturday...carried a huge amount of ball, and made very few mistakes...he's prone to the occasional(?) bout of brain fade, but didn't try too many 'hail marys' thankfully.

Still don't think we're getting the best out of Conor McCarthy - a huge talent, but in danger of getting lost...

Please can the management get the team in the right metal place for Derry game...need to avoid the 'ah, Tyrone gone, kick back and relax now'...

I wouldn't agree with you, Mr.
Rinn, Rynn, Ring, Reen, Wrynn, Wren, or even Wrenn. I predict that Monaghan will win that match. O'Rinn is a great camouflage, btw.

Whys Karl O Connel not starting this weather?

Strange game Saturday team never really needed to hit championship pace against a woeful down side who worryingly still went through us for two goals. Think our full back line looks solid but something needs to be done on the half back line as teams will just run through us. Lavelle is a big loss if reports on injury are true as could seen him playing 6.

Further up the field while can see why mccarthy plays half back as frees him up he is more dangerous closer to the goals. On Gary Mohan think he is worth the gamble even if he is v raw as need something different to make things happen against what is sure to be a brick wall in the Derry defence. Monaghan haven't had a good ball winner in the sq in years.

On Derry Gallagher will have them pumped up and there will be no surprises v much a 50 50 game.

Lavelle would be a big loss heading into the Derry game, given their mobile midfield. It's a damn shame Mulligan has walked, the lad is a born footballer and his way back into the fold needs to be cleared.
As for Mohan, he was all arms and legs on Saturday and lost as much ball as he won. But the raw ability to cause problems for a full back line is there. Brendan Rogers was superb taking the ball out of defence against Tyrone and he will need to be occupied close to his own goal. Leave Mohan to it.
Whatever about the goals conceded on Saturday, the lack of a goal scoring threat against a beaten team is an issue. McCarthy or Jones can provide that. A more defensive player will be needed at half back anyway.

Big job to get the focus right on Derry now because no doubt Tyrone was in the back of a lot of minds since the draw was made.

I like Mohan, he's a quality we have little of, size along with a directness and unpredictability, he's a young lad and we've seen worse talent get persisted with!

As for the Derry game, delighted to avoid Tyrone, wouldn't have gave us much of a chance with the voodoo they have over us.

That being said I was at the Glen v Stown game which has a lot of the same players being matched up against each other again, and in particular the middle third, the Glen boys absolutely destroyed the 2hughes in the middle.

I'd worry about the our/Derry's fitness, I think they'll run us into the ground and from what we seen in the league we aren't as well conditioned as previous years.

Goals will determine the outcome in what will surly be a close game, we didn't look like being able to buy one against down but I feel that was down to not needing as much as anything. We will need to get ahead early to ask questions of the Derry team/management.

It's a 50/50 in my books.

A devastating blow for the hurlers to lose four points in the race for the the Lory Meagher Cup. This coupled with their loss today means they are no longer in the running. They were actually going so well in the competition.

What format is the club league and championship taking this year?
Are we back to the full league playing each other twice, with relegation and promotion.
What format is championship ? Is relegation gone from the championship or is that going to stay?

I know we probably cannot name the player in question, but in what way was the hurler ineligible to play for monaghan leading to the points being docked??

As far as I know he is 17 years old but too old to play minor. He is eligible to play senior for his club but not for the county. Seems like a strange rule that he can play senior club and not county.

It is a pity as they were doing well and got some good wins under their belt. I believe he is a fantastic prospect though so be good to see him in action next year.

Was in clones yesterday and for the down game too in two different sections of the pitch. I have to say the facilities are shocking, a lack of paint, no tissues in toilets to dry hands, dirty toilets, no match programmes at either game and grass around the stadium overgrown and mucky. Its no wonder the athletic grounds, Omagh and Breffni are starting to get more games ahead of Clones and from listening to Cavan and Donegal supporters around the game it was noted by all.

So its Semi final week. What is our predictions? And likely lineout on the day?

Personally think it is going to be a tough affair this. Derry performed well against Tyrone and really showed their ability. Tyrone may not of been at the races but still Derry were brilliant with the game plan they played. Gallagher has had a lot of haters over the last while but he has made some job of this Derry team. Monaghan will have their work cut out for them in Armagh Sunday. Venue will suit Derry with the defensive game they play. But now is the time for Monaghan to step up and be counted for.

We have the talent and experience to get over Derry but we need to be at our best. Will we see Monaghan bring a different game plan on the day? Hoping for a great contest Sunday.

My starting 15 is:
1. Beggan
2. Wylie
3. Boyle
4. Duffy
5. McAnespie
6. Ward
7. McCarthy
8. D Hughes
9. Kearns
10. Bannigan
11. McCarron
12. K Hughes
13. Woods
14. Mohan
15. McManus
