Replying To coffey:  "Is it true there'll be 3 second teams in ACL Div2 next year? Shamrocks Lomans and Kinnegad ,has to be a worry"
Yeah that would seem right, without sounding too dismissive but I feel it's more a reflection on the first teams in Division 2 and 3 rather than those second teams being really strong. Has the standard dropped massively in terms of football in the county. I would say the top 3/4 teams in intermediate would be fairly similar to the bottom 3/4 senior teams in the county. Then there is a bit of a drop off. Multy and RBridge in Intermediate A are both Div 3 , while in Intermediate B they are almost all Division 3 clubs now. Finea being back to Division 5.

I know they beat us last year but I think that's the best draw we could have got. There's no excuse for complacency after last year

Wicklow away not a bad draw really-would have that over going to Fermanagh or Kildare anyday. They beat us last year in Championship in Portlaoise but in my opinion very poor management was a huge factor.Winning the toss and deciding to play against a gale force wind was madness.-take every advantage you can -put up a big score against a div.4 team(?) and then see the game out.Saturdays performance should stand to the lads-people are saying Laois were very poor and they were becayse Westmeath made them look poor with their intensity so hopefully we can carry this performance onto Aughrim and get to a semi final

Div 1 League Final on next Monday evening at 7.30pm. The showpiece of our leagues. Players working in Dublin, Galway and Limerick. How can the county board justify this. The match should be on Saturday with the Div 2 final.

Players train most evenings midweek, I'm sure they'll be alright for the 'showpiece' event.

Who ever heard of a county league final being played on a monday evening??-just an inconvenience now for the county board-just get it out of the way scenario. Why play these leagues if the final is going to be disrespected like this.

From your reply, it shows you know very little on what players commit in playing for their clubs. If players working away are training midweek, they are sometimes under pressure to be on time for training at 8pm. But a match is different. They are expected to be in mullingar for 6.30pm. To do this, they will have to take 1/2 from work. Our would you expect them not to travel back on that Sunday evening and take the day off.

You're not wrong but given our seniors are playing this weekend there was going to be finals on weekdays guaranteed. Lower division players also have jobs with equal demands so not really a fair argument for why the division 1 final should be on the weekend. Are the fixtures for the finals posted somewhere? Not on the Westmeath website as far as I can see

Agreed, but would it have anything to do with Kinnegad also been in the Div 3 final, Div 1 should take priority for sure and Monday evening is quite an unusual time for it.

You imagine a Div 1 and 2 double header Saturday and Div 3 on the Monday would be more suitable.

Just get on with it, ask the boss can you have a few hours off? The team that finishes top should get the Cup, hardly anyone gives a hoot about these finals, County Board obviously couldn't care less.

Christ what a ridiculous comment: "Just get on with it". Can you get any more out of touch?

As a player who lost one of these finals last year, I can tell you that quite a few people "give a hoot" actually.

A league is a league and whoever finishes first wins it-end of story -whoever heard of a team finishing second crowned league winners!!

Final was fixed for Saturday evening, one of the clubs objected as they were in a final already scheduled for Friday evening and were using same players in both finals. That's the reason why it's on Monday. Fixtures had been sent out so hardly fair to rearrange all other fixtures to suit one club. It's a simple answer but that probably won't sit well with the previous posters who see all kinds of conspiracy theories about fixtures and want to hammer fixture makers without being in possession of the facts

Eh Westmeath Div 2 in 2008. Dublin finished top, Westmeath finished second and won the final.

Dublin finished top=league winners .As a famous manager once stated-finish top you are winners-finish second you are nothing!!

There are many examples of competitions run on a league basis but finish with playoffs, e.g. MLS in America, UEFA Nations League.

A league final might not suit Lomans or the Downs in Division 1 but I can tell you that teams in lower Divisions relish the chance of a league final in Cusack Park.

Shankley said "if you are first your are first. If you are second you are nothing", not "finish top you are winners finish second you are nothing". If you are going to quote someone at least do it right. Leinster Rugby are URC champions so? They finished top of the URC. No need for the grand final this weekend. Call it off. Should only 1 team be promoted from one division to the next so aswell, just the top team in soccer? Forget about playoffs etc?

Best of luck to the Westmeath management and players against Wicklow on Sunday. I expect this will be a very close tense game but if we get going from the first whistle hopefully we can get a good result from Aughrim.

What's the views on Sunday, wicklow have beaten us recently but we more than capable of winning. Obviously the team named won't be starting but that's another day debate, I'd say Allen, scahill and mcCartan have to start, on last week. Best of luck to westmeath. It's knock out football and if we good enough we are good. Hopefully we get a bit of following to support team like cusack last week
