Replying To Heavinwasthebest:  "The size of the senior backroom teams listed in the county final programme. St. Loman's have 12 people with various different roles outlined and the Downs have 8. Compared to the final in 2018 when St. Loman's had 5 backroom staff and Mullingar Shamrocks had 4. It's no coincidence that the two best teams in the county have a large support system akin to inter county level or is there any need for all these people hanging around the back of the dressing room? Your thoughts please."
I saw that all of Loman's players are equipped with GPS trackers. While I can envision a need for perhaps two or three mentors, the necessity for twelve is mad, and I'm curious about the specific roles they all do and if all 12 go o every session.

1 manager
1 Coach
3 selectors
1 goalkeeping Coach
1 physio
3 backroom team
1 S&C who is also a player
And 1 team admin

So this number is a little inflated

Manger - picks team, deals with players and has final say
Coach - help pick team, runs training sessions
3 selectors - help pick team and help with training sessions.
GK coach - Takes GK away during training and work on things like kick outs.
S&C Coach - Does gym program, does warm ups before training. Helps players get back from injury
Physio - injury's
2/3 Kit Men - getting all equipment ready for training and matches. Pick up all cones and other equipment while training is ongoing. Washing jerseys and bibs after every match or training session
Performance/ Stats man - analyses all matches and gathers stats for management team and players that they can use to improve performance. Also gathers all GPS stats.

This is common in most well run senior clubs around the country. No need to always have a go at Lomans. They are the one club that have their house in order. 10 senior finals in a row is now joke.

Any chance of getting a bit of discussion going for the other 3 finals this weekend. Could be three cracking games

Junior 2 - Two teams battling to get back up to Junior 1 where they will feel they should be. With St Paul's going down its great for football to see one more first team back up next year. Darragh Seerys injury came at an awful time for Ballinagore but still feel they can get over the line. Delvin juggling with the hurling the following week also

Junior 1 - CFCW trying to get back to Intermediate at the first attempt. Probably favourites before a ball was kicked this year and a formidable outfit. St Josephs in their first Junior final in 20 years. Very young but when they click they play lovely football. Key could be how both full back lines can manage the threats the other side have

Intermediate - Garrycastle, like CFCW, trying to bounce right back up at the first go. Milltown are on a roll and showed their quality in the semi final win where Multy were well fancied. Experience is obviously on Garrycastle side with the great Jimmy Dolan still showing his class. Some lovely footballers in the Milltown team too

Best of luck to all 6 clubs

Replying To iarmhiabu:  "Exactly, I couldn't have put it better myself. It was a defensive game with both teams setting up a mirror image of each other. I had to laugh at the narrative during the build up to the game, I think it was Luke that said "we're two teams that are predominantly football teams and don't draw everyone behind the ball'(!!). The quality of the shooting was impressive and that's the main reason everyone left Cusack Park happy."
The Downs are the aristocrats of Westmeath football. The days of old when Mick Carley and Dom Murtagh were playing. By god they would never play defensive. This chatter always amuses me.

I'd bet on Milltown to winIf all their men turn up on the day, they have some superb players who can make a difference., include Conor Dillon, Gibney, McGauran, Duncan, Hynes, and the two Murtaghs in midfield. I fully agree that Garrycastle has a wealth of experience and greater depth in their panel than Milltown, but I reckon this final will be one of the best intermediate finals in quite a while.

On a side note for the S&C with Lomans, apparently they had their 50th collective gym session the week leading into the county final. And that's an Extra session every week added onto the 3 pitch trainings each week. That's another reason why their house is in order. That's boarderline professional commitment levels. 4 collective sessions every week. Peter Foy is regarded as an outstanding S&C coach by everyone I talk to in Lomans. Maybe one for the future with S&C in the Westmeath set up if time catches up with him on the pitch, although that's looking unlikely.

I agree think milltown have all the tools to win this game. Garycastle have some exceptional footballers but overall as a team think milltown can win this if nerves of the big day dont get to them.

How are small rural clubs going to get the money, players and support to compete with this?

Hopefully john keane stays involved as I think that's important. Westmeath will be on transition but div 2 is not as daunting as previous years and a few winnable games. Staying safe in div 2 and been competitive on leinster is surely the target."
Mark McHugh confirmed he sure gets around and doesn't seem to stay anywhere longer than a year. He was also to be part of Lar Wall's management but once he got word he wasn't going to get selected he must have jumped onto McCabe's ticket.

Unbelievable to think that this is common in most well run Senior clubs and there is that many people involved and we have to outside to get a manager to look after the county team surely we would have the right people within the County to look after our Senior team. How many is the new man going to bring with him and what are the costing???? And surely by going outside we would go after the best available not someone unproven at county level we have been down this road before bad decision Westmeath football will suffer again

An All Starf footballer 2 Cavan senior titles I think he could be a great appointment. We had two of our own for the past number of years but they decided to move on.
The costs are high but Westmeath are in division 2 and want to stay there.Lets give him a chance

It's good business by the county board for once to get a manager with a proven coaching pedigree. McHugh left Roscommon because of all the travelling but from what I gather Davy Burke liked it his own way. Lar left after a year too and another selector quit with McHugh.

What's everyones predictions for the weekend ?

Senior Replay
It's a tough one to call I'm going to predict st lomans to nick it but only just by a point or two.

Intermediate
Again a tough one to call nothing between both sides a game I'm really looking forward to and I think Garrycastles wealthy expierience will just get them over the line again a narrow one or two point win

Junior
Haven't seen much of either team but the positivity and good noises from st Joseph's all year has me fancying them to come true all though cfcw have been there done that and know what it takes so it's another tough call

Junior 2
I fancy ballinagore to win it

Now we have manager in place is their any players from the championship that have stood out that McCabe and McHugh could call up to the panel?

Joe Moran and Andrew Kilmartin of The Downs, Liam O Reilly (Miltownpass), Eoin O Brien (Kinnegad) and Eoin Doran (Shamrocks) should all be called up. The door should also be left open for players that have left the panel over the last few years for different reasons but all had good club seasons Boidu Sayah, Finbar Coyne and Paddy Fagan.

Shane Allen, Brian Cooney, Eoin Mulvhill, Daniel Scahill, Matthew Whittaker, Nigel Harte, Conor Dillon should all become regular starters in the team.

The following are still u20 but should be brought into the panel for devolvement Jack Duncan, Shane Ormsby and Darragh Lowry.

Hopefully John Heslin gives us one more year. The new rules will help him. He could be one of the 3 left up top.

Senior - Lomans to kick on and win by 4/5pts

Intermediate - Garrycastle to win by a big margin, 8/9pts

Junior - A Draw, two very similar teams with experience thrown in on the right lines of the pitch, I'm looking forward to this one.

Junior 2 - Ballinagore, because they need to win it, they've been under performing for too many years now.

We have had our own men involved for several years; they have put in a commendable effort, and now it's time for a change-a sentiment that I believe everyone on the committee to find a manager felt.

Immediate too hard to call if Milltown turn up on the day.
CFCW by 4
Ballinagore is likely to win convincingly, as it seems the Delvin men are more focused on the hurling match taking place in a week's time.

Additionally, I believe St. Joseph's are too dependent on Jordan McDonnell could be their downfall. If CFCW manages to wrap him early in the game, St. Joseph's might struggle against a more physically dominant CFCW team.
