Type of punter you just know would lead Westmeath Gaa to lifting sam. Hopefully you are close to Dessie today to tell him that waiting until the last min to see who is not carrying knocks is a joke.

Lack of team announcement used to annoy me but I've got used to it now. Nothing to do with PR team, entirely down to the manager. Lots of teams at it and Down are no exception. Complete mind games as stated by others. No way that Westmeath team will start. Any sign of Heslin ?

Down team is always named day before and has been in this game again.

Let's hope Westmeath keep their heads together for Sligo. Some really great football today. Great scores and defending.

We just seemed out of energy towards the last few mins. Good to see Jacks son Brian Cooney come into the match day panel.

Yes Down team announced 10pm last night. Westmeath a few hours earlier. Both guilty for me but we are used to it. Plenty of changes before throw in too. Dessie naming injured lads we all know won't be involved. What's the point. Anyway, both teams remain unbeaten but not yet guaranteed promotion which is incredible.

Not sure we were out of energy in last few mins, Down led 1-5 to 0-4 after 45 mins, we outscored them by 0-9 to 0-5 after that, both sides in last 6-7 mins including injury time didn't want to lose, a draw was fine, we're now playing a side with nothing to play for, a draw in Sligo sees us promoted, missing lots of players today but we excelled in second half, Robbie Forde was superb, James Dolan likewise, Jason Daly has had a brilliant league, pulsating second half today

Good battling display today by Westmeath and a great draw in the end-how are we going to replace Kevin Maguire when he eventually calls it a day-he was immence today but all over the park we gave it all and in our own hands next week in Sligo .Result means that Down have to go all out against Clare next week as a loss could see them miss out on promotion.

Yes with Sligo nothing to play for, your boys should be nailed on to go up, as for ourselves its winner takes all v Clare , god knows we could win by 10 or get pipped by 1

Slow burner today but was exciting all the way through. I'm really impressed by the physicality we brought vs an Ulster team. It's something we have improved on. Good to see Forde step up and show we have more options than the usual names . Loughlin, Daly, Maguire Dolan all good today and we had a couple of vital blocks and saves today. Ray with a serious double dispossession today that helped us earn a draw. It's a clip you should show to any player about desire to win a ball you've no right getting.

Down were physical but we stood up to it, they lacked a forward of real pace able to burn us but have good players and kicked some good scores. Fair result for me and met a couple of nice Down supporters which is great.

Disappointed RTE did not show the Robbie Forde point he stuck over from sideline. If Clifford had scored that they would be talking about it all week. Same with the James Dolan block. Pure athletism at the death.

Or Rays tackle in extra time, leading to a well taken forward free to a man in space on the oppiste side of the park and resuling in an important point.

Agreed. Ray has been very good throughout this league campaign, hes been a driving force and Jimmy Dolan had a very good game. Any word on Dannys injury hopefully nothing too serious.

Agreed Ray Connellan has been brilliant all season and last 15 mins yesterday was huge playing with an obvious injury so hope that not to serious and the other lads that were out yesterday will all be fit and raring to go in Sligo next weekend. Also have we a goalkeeping injury problems as well-see Conor McCormack did the complete goalkeeping warm up pre match drills with Jason.

Thought the team showed great character yesterday. Connellen, Maguire, Dolan and Loughlin superb. Delighted to see Robbie Forde take his chance his both hands. I think he, along with Heslin, is the best ball striker we have in the county and should take frees whenever he is on the field. A few lads are yet to find their form from the last year or two. Pleasantly surprised with the performances of Conor Dillon this year who has been very good.

On the selection front, I think there are a couple of players (particularly around the middle 8) who can count themselves lucky to get so much game time.

We still have to go to Sligo and win this Sunday but what a job Dessie and Co have done with this team so far this year.

We have the 2nd best defense in the whole league just behind Armagh. This has been done by missing some of our regulars. Jack Smith, Kevin Maguire and Ronan Wallace our best 3 backs have misses majority of games through injury and we have still played well.

We have been brilliant around the middle of the field throughout the league. Ray been the best and on current form I believe he is just behind Glass and Fenton as one of the best in the country around the middle.

If we can win this weekend it will be a great achievement considering we have missed so many players throughout the league for different reasons. If we can get Heslin back fit for championship we have a real chance of beating Wicklow, Kildare and Louth to make a Leinster final and qualify for the All Ireland.

On another note, If Westmeath win this weekend and Clare can beat Down it would be a great result for Westmeath as it would give Westmeath a better chance at qualifying for the All Ireland group stage.

Anyone got the under 20 panel? Seen other counties have announced theirs but nothing from Westmeath yet.
First round vs Dublin this night week, tough group with Meath also and only 2 going through.

Fantastic achievement by the Mullingar school, good to see five players from Ballynacargy on the squad, Mooney from Ballynacargy changed the game as sub, scored 3-4 points, good spread from the big town clubs, 2-3 from each club, Conneely from The Downs is a tough player at half back, Aaron Connaire was excellent at full forward, two best teams in the competition were cbs and Marist in Athlone. CBS won the All Ireland in this few years ago with Charlie Drumm and Ben McGurren starring, it's a while since cbs won a Leinster's senior
