Best of luck to Brian Fenton in his retirement.Imo he is the best midfielder since Jack Shea.A gentleman on and off the field. He is a huge loss to Dublin.I always felt James McCarthy and Fenton were the two most important players to Dublin and were irreplacable.Brians highfielding and score taking were of the highest quality. He will go down as one of the all time greats.Hope he enjoys his well deserved rest.

My favourite player outside of my own county. What an athlete and what a player. He always turned up in the clutch moments too. Got the Dubs through a few tricky games.

From memory he lost only 3 championship games:

Mayo 2021 (which was his first champ loss in 6 years)
Kerry 2022
Galway 2024

How many champ games did he play overall? He should have a pretty high win %.

Hope he enjoys his retirement. Who knows he might do a Murphy and come back again.

I think when he started he went something like 30 games without losing in either league or championship. (Am allowing for some urban legend exaggeration but it was close.)

64 Championship games and only 3 defeats.

Scored 4-72

What a player....!

Hopefully he does a Michael Murphy on it - still only 31...

Sad news for Dublin football fans and Gaelic football fans everywhere, what an absolutely fantastic player Brian Fenton was for Dublin.
He will be sorely missed by the Dubs, enjoy the retirement Brian and thanks for all the great displays of midfield brilliance.

As a Galway man Brian Fenton was an outstanding player tough athletic chipped in with lots scores and great sportsmanship in my memory himself and Jack o Shea 2 Finest midfielders of last 40 years I hope he might come back again after a year still young but he definitely owes football nothing

With Fenton, McCarthy gone and possibly Cluxton next, Dublin's 15 in a row in Leinster could be in a bit of trouble.

You might be right there, we're automatically dropping a level with Fenton gone.

I agree Realdub. While I think both Fenton and James McCarthy were two of Dublins greatest ever players (actually two of the greatest in the gaa),Jamsie was starting to fade but Fenton was still the best midfielder in the game..There was at least another two years in him for top level.Q huge loss !

Jack OShea was the best player I ever saw and never thought I'd see better until Fenton arrived.

For me, he's the greatest and what a winning record.

Great player and what a career. Now with himself and McCarthy gone there might be hope for the other teams in Leinster. Is he going travelling or something else? Like Murphy still young to be retiring but with Murphy you could not blame him with everything going on off the pitch.

The stands of football in Leinster is very poor. Definitely the weakest province. Only one team in Division 1 so that tells it's own story. A lot more would need to retire before Dublin would fall to the standard of the chasing pack.

I'd imagine he has missed out a bit on his career. Hopefully for Raheny he will stay with them as they are still in with shout of winning county.

A generational talent and a gentleman to boot! Was fortunate to meet him on the way back from Thurles after a Cork v Clare hurling match. He was sporting the Clare colours (Think his mam is from Clare?) so got some ribbing from us, all good banter though, and a great conversation was had on all aspects of the GAA and further afield.
All the best in retirement.. Left nothing behind, and achieved it all.....

I think the travelling will give him a well earned rest, and who knows..... when he returns, he might re-consider.... ;o)

10 years is some commitment for any player to Inter County, and his decision was a hell of a lot easier, having already achieved so much.
