In 2022 the only games that will go to a replay will be the All Ireland Finals. If this is the case a game clock should be brought to every inter county game. The argument always was replays made the GAA money. It is time to stop the foolishness of time is up to the discretion of the ref. Tipp county final another joke of an ending where the ref calls the game and Noel McGrath about to take a sideline cut which he may well have scored. gatha (Kilkenny) - Posts: 318 - 24/11/2021 12:08:21 2390575 Link 2 |
That thing of GAA playing for draws to make more money from ticket sales was fairly blown apart this year. Both football semi-finals and 1 hurling semi-final all finished in draws and would have gone to a replay in past years. This year extra time was played and a winner got on the day.

Would it be they are afraid of not getting games played in time for Gareth.

Some of the best games that I was at were replays, Kerry v Armagh 2000, Kerry v Galway 2000, Kerry v Cork 2010, Kerry v Mayo 2014. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 24/11/2021 13:51:42 2390598 Link 1 |
Agreed on that list. Winner on the day is a sensible evolution though. It gives greater clarity to Master Fixture plans. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7846 - 24/11/2021 14:39:31 2390613 Link 2 |
That true plus its cheaper for the supporters as well. It would be a tough way to lose a game by penalties, I don't think my ticker could take it. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 24/11/2021 14:54:40 2390620 Link 0 |
With 2010 being the best one of them!

As well as giving the underdog a better chance on the day. Underdogs I would think would take penalties.

A countdown clock and hooter system so nobody in the stadium is under any illusions as to the time left.

Don't think I could listen to opposing fans counting down the clock. Leave it to ref and 4 official.

The 2004 replayedMunster Final was not a bad one either

People often say penalties is a terrible way to lose a game but I disagree. Its a test of skill and nerve. You have 5 chances. And I'd prefer to lose on penalties than to a dodgy late free which often happens. Remember the one Kildare lost to Dublin by a point being such an example. Agreed. I was going to add it to the list. The 2009 final then was one that Limerick left behind them. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7846 - 25/11/2021 12:27:54 2390765 Link 0 |
I can think of lots of terrible ways to lose a game. Any of these things could happen in the last minute or two of a tight match: - referee gives a dodgy free against you - one of your own lads concedes a stupid free - your own free-taker misses a scorable free - one of your lads makes a silly mistake that allows the opposition to score Losing on penalties would be tough all right, but losing for any of those reasons would be equally tough. Whole idea of any knock-out match anyway is to decide a winner and loser, so if it goes to penalties because normal time and extra time doesn't separate the sides, then so be it. I believe if there is an actual clock there would be very few games that would even get to overtime never mind a penalty shootout. I am no supporter of penalties to decide a game. Leave that to soccer.

Yes against yer selves, a good battle and the hardest battle we had that year if I remember correctly. Ye should have had us the first day. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 25/11/2021 13:36:10 2390782 Link 0 |
Was that the 2010 final?

Will they keep the rule that if a player is sent off in normal time that his team goes back to its full 15 for extra time? KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 25/11/2021 14:31:57 2390792 Link 0 |
The 2009 final v Cork was one that was there for the taking for Limerick. You are right about 2010 though, I forgot that one. Limerick ran us close that day. Mickey Ned had Limerick very competitive those couple of years.
