I always thought that much of Jack O'Shea's greatness could be attributed to his partner Seanie Walsh, although it would be unfair to describe Walsh as merely a grafter. Obviously bias as most of my life have attended games in ulster tbh, I know there's been a few mentioned already out of ulster but I would rate Stephen king and Dermott McCabe out of Cavan, P mcginnity and P Brewster from Fermanagh, P mcgrane Armagh and also loved watching willie joe from Mayo. I see on balls. Ie they picking the best midfielders over last 50 years. Selectors are Oisín McConville Peter Canavan and John ó Mahony. Well there is an element of truth in it. For a midfielder to roam all over the pitch the other has to mind the house. Seanie Walsh was a super fielder. There is an iconic photo of him in croke park outfielding Brian Mullins and he is a few feet over Mullins who leaped high too. Seanie also a very good forward centre back and full back. Jack O' Shea in contrast, had terrific football ability coupled with a warrior spirit, and to my mind was greatest midfielder. Of today's crop, obviously Brian Fenton stands out!
