Ballymac 40 In A Row

(Oldest Posts First)

An unreal amount of titles. How can a team be that dominant for so long? Have a huge pick compared to other clubs?

Waterford have won several senior ladies football All-Irelands.

I would say it's more to do with Michael Ryan.

Seems kind of pointless stuff.

Just like Kildare never winning 40-in-a-row. Did they ever even do 2-in-a-row, in anything? Isn't it pointless for Kildare to field a senior football team, year in, year put, then?

It only seems pointless, if you're not involved or not from Ballymac. If you don't understand the context, don't comment idly!

I would question the other clubs and what they are doing to get up to it. No team in any sport, in the world, should win 40 in a row.

Are they crushing it like the Dublin men up to 2020 or are they winning competitive games by a point or two in places?

Oops I just looked it up. Comeragh looks like the only team putting it up to them. Looking for a roll of honour too to see if even anyone else has eve won the thing.

What are you rambling about??!
What has kildare got to do with anything??

Any team in any sport that dominates like that is not good for the sport. How can 40 in a row be good for Waterford ladies football?

40 in a row does make it pointless though.

I looked this up today on the Waterford Ladies Football website, which in fairness to them is very good.

Seems there's only five senior teams. They play a round-robin (four games each), and then the top two teams play each other in the final.

Ballymac won their first game (v Stradbally) by 12 points, and then their second game (v Comeragh Rangers, who they also beat in yesterday's final) by 3 points. The other two weaker teams then conceded walkovers instead of playing them.

One of those weaker teams (Erin's Own) had themselves lost to Comeragh Rangers by 6-15 to 0-6, so presume they feared annihilation altogether if they actually played Ballymac.

Bottom line anyway is that Ballymac won this county championship after playing only three matches, with two of them against the same team. Make of that what you will.

Bit of an aside, but I had another bit of a browse around that site this morning to try get an impression of how many clubs there are and what level they compete at.

I notice that one club in Junior B was played 4, lost 4, and results included:
Lost 11-17 to 1-1
Lost 12-22 to 0-1
Lost 10-22 to 0-0

Can't find the result of their fourth match, but league table suggests they scored 4 points and conceded "only" 24.

I can give you a bit of info here.
There's really 3 clubs at senior level - Ballymac, Comeragh and Stradbally.
The county team is practically 100% from those 3 and Abbeyside, who for some reason can't get it together as a club.

At underage level, the silverware is well spread out, but those are the only teams bringing it through to senior level.

Ballymac have a huge advantage in that they were the best club team in Ireland at a stage and have managed to keep that culture going whilst trying and failing to win a Munster / All Ireland club since the start of the millennium.

To be fair they'd probalby have pulled off something similar in most counties .

Any competition where a team can win 40 titles in a row is a competition in name only.

Fair play to Ballymacarbry, they can only beat what's in front of them and we can't expect them to voluntarily pull back, but it's tough to take seriously as an achievement to just steamroll through a token championship every year.

I really don't understand what the point is. That can't be good for player morale. A bit like Waterford getting pasted by the Cork minors.

Dishing out pastings are seemingly appreciated and well received within football circles. See next years Provincial Championships for more!
