An excellent weekend for Westmeath hurling and to do it without Peter Clarke and Daragh Mccormack. But we conceded 3 goals in the second half which wont do v Laois

Won by 3 pts. Antrim had a man sent off which I thought was harsh, again showing the referee complacency. 3 sloppy and avoidable goals conceded from long hopeful balls in was very disappointing. On the plus side, our attack was very good with Castletown duo David O'Reilly and Peter Murphy causing havoc for Antrims backline. Davy Williams again impressive and also Rhian Holding.
Apparently Peter Clarke was dropped off the starting team and didn't feature today for whatever reason.
I thought we were going to need him today such was the job we made out of that game near the end.
Anyways,
Well done to all involved with the minors and u20 over the weekend!

Minor win was comfortable but Carlow's challenge was very poor. Our defenders were again good, especially Mikey Weir and Connaire Martin. Dependency on Conor Heffernan for scores is a bit concerning, our movement in attack and over elaborate passing will be dealt with by stronger opposition but three competitive matches and a home venue against a side beaten by ten yesterday is a cause for optimism.

Spot on, but I'd expect Joe Mulvaney, Caolan Ready and Ben McNamee to chip in with more the next day out, all three are accurate forwards on their day.

Can Westmeath if they finish runner up in the u20 group get through to next round or is it only the group winner, decent enough win today and meath to play last.offaly probably have the group won though

Only the winners of 2 and 3 go into the quarter finals. Along with the two bottom Tier 1 teams.

Yeah top two go through, so if we beat Meath we will go through.
Today should have been far more comfortable, all 3 of Antrims goals were long hopeful balls in and we didn't deal with them at all. We did all the hurling, as we did in the second half vs Offaly. We just need to put in a 60 minute performance which we haven't done yet.

For the 20s game It was extremely hard to know which side had the extra man for the entire second half, we failed to utilise our advantage, defence looked porous throughout and David O' Reilly's 1-3 was ultimately the difference. Good to win but significant improvements needed when we face higher caliber opposition.

Our minor and under 20 teams without setting the World on fire have been competitive and have the ability to improve.Surely the possibility of the minors putting out the defending champions should entice all Westmeath Gaels to go and support a team with 3 wins from 3.

For sure, a lot of bandwagon supporters in Westmeath unfortunately. If the minors or u20s get to a Leinster semi final then you see the crowds.

The reality is different, a lot different, we've been outnumbered by likes of Carlow, Meath, at home in hurling recently, more than 100 genuine supporters on Sunday would be a bonus, there's lads who claim to support the county but reality is it's easy to make noise about the game or offer opinions, getting to local venues seems harder to do for some. At least under 20 footballers were well supported against Wexford.

I thought there was decent support for the u20s vs Antrim yesterday, not great but not the worst I've ever seen. Maybe minor in both codes suffers the most.

Haven't got a chance to post this yet but did anyone watch the Kildare Offaly D2 final? It was obvious to see the difference in style of play between us and them which is a good thing. It shows that playing in this division and trying to play the same as the top teams is working and we retain the ball/ work it up through the lines much better.

u20s beating Meath by 22 points today, we looked to have improved the defensive issues from the last two games as well as taking more of our goal opportunities.
Plenty of stand out performances again, Peter Clarke, David O'Reilly, Peter Murphy, Eamonn Cunneen, David Williams, Cunningham, Gaffney and Mulkearns impressive.
Hopefully the minors do the job tomorrow as well.

Portlaoise next weekend against a Laois team who beat Kildare,Carlow and Kerry. Its a big ask but we have a good chance if we play to our best and dont give away soft goals.

I'm not surprised it's Portlaoise, they never have to come to Mullingar.
