Andrew Dermody has a good team there and will be even stronger when them lads come back onto it. I reckon they will do well this year. Serious talent in that squad with Williams, O'Reilly, Murray etc and they play the game well.

Who's the 3 Ringtown lads starting and the sub ? I must be looking at the wrong team sheet. Managers and selectors being from westmeath is pretty irrelevant mangers always move around from team to team and isn't really an issue is it ?

Yeah when they get Rhian Holding, David Williams, Cunningham etc back they'll be even stronger.
Peter Murphy is another great talent. Seen Darragh McCormack with them there today too!

Teams need to work together with players. A big result at any level ( let alone winning a provincial) is huge for the county . So having players sit on the bench with very little chance to play while making the u20 weaker is very silly. Andy is a very good manager to have at this level.

David Williams was there today and was there last week with the u20's I'm surprised Joe Fortune isn't bringing him along but it's good to see him with the u20's gives the lads a boost good to see McCormack there. Williams and McCormack cousins mite I add do work well together on the inside line. But McCormack needs to mind his knee and come back stronger. They have great hurling knowledge

Pat Burke and Charles Flynn from Ringtown, and Paddy Lynam from Plunketts started. Jason Moran from Ringtown is a sub. I've no problem with these players or management involved with Longford, just adding info to the thread.

When are the u20s out next? Is there a development league this year? Good win over Wexford though.

If that was against a Wexford full team then it looks extremely well for Leinster championship, Wexford are usually very competitive at that age grade. A win by that margin minus some players is promising

From what I hear it was Wexfords under 19 team but a decent win all the same.As for the seniors an improvement on last week.Full back line was excellent but the 2 wing backs got roasted.Midfield tried hard but Wexford won the battle.Glennon,Joey Boyle and Mccabe did ok in the forwards.

You could say that about ourselves too in some ways as Cunneen, Cunningham etc weren't involved because they were with the seniors. Regardless it was a good win and hopefully bodes well for this year but also next year also as the majority of our u20 team are underage again next year. Any time your beating Wexford by 13/14 pts it's a good thing for confidence and momentum. We will have plenty of firepower in the team when we have everyone with the likes of McCormack, Cunneen, Murphy, Aughey, O'Reilly, Clarke and Williams.
I don't believe u20 is knockout straight away this year so we should see this group in a few games at least.

Is it true that because we are operating at Liam McCarthy level, if we use any of the u20 players at Senior they can't play u20 then?

At the minute that's the rule. Only applies to championship games though

Think motion to congress about rescinding that rule. Expectation is that it will be passed. Wexford motion.

Hope it is passed. It was always a stupid rule.

Nonsensical rule, in reality its been a factor in deciding all ireland champions, for example David Clifford never played u20 or 21 for Kerry.

u20s beat Laois at the weekend, following up the win over Wexford. Seem to be going decent enough, early days though.

It is a ridiculous rule.cahal o neill missed the run to all ireland under 20 final with limerick and was a huge loss..it's still going to be a problem in munster because the fixtures for under 20 and senior are less than 7 days apart, which will mean they can't play at own age group if they have played senior..

Yes but if a player only played 3 minutes senior championship hurling he wasn't allowed to hurl u20 at all for the year last year.

Well done today in Cork.A horrible start down by 8 after ten minutes but hurled with heart and skill after that.21 points in Cork is fair going even if they didnt play Horgan. Clare showed how good they are in Wexford today while our 2 other displays have been good.I know with Limerick and Galway to come its not easy but the team is doing the county proud especially when you think of the so many players missing.

Westmeath always start the league slowly even in div 2a last year they were slow to get going and today proves again improving with each game, I definitely think and getting more confident that westmeath will survive in division 1 which basically was the objective which is positive. V hard place to go to and take on Cork the way they play in their home ground but battled well
