Replying To Low2Joe:  "I wouldn't bother biting, they're just looking to wind you up. But saying Dublin hurling has made zero progress isn't quite right.

In the last 20 years, Dublin have won a Leinster senior title, a Division 1 National League, several Leinster minor and U21 titles, and three All-Ireland senior club championships. That's solid progress and success by any standard.

Still not quite breaking into the top elite at senior All-Ireland level, but far from abysmal. It's actually more than we've achieved in the same time, which is disappointing given that hurling is by far the number one sport in our county."
Lad they have over twice as many underage hurling teams as we have, 654 to 309, so should be doing way better than us. Since 2013 the last time they won a Leinster Senior title we have reached 8 Leinster u20 hurling finals to their 6, winning 3 to their 2. They have reached 3 Leinster Senior finals to our 2, but at least we won one of ours. I wouldn't say we were miles behind them, though our head to head record at Senior is poor for sure.
It's as poor as our head to head record against Westmeath since the last year we beat both, back in 2018.
And just for reference Westmeath only have 101 youth hurling teams to our 309 and Dublins 654. So it could be said while we are punching above our weight relative to Dublin, Westmeath certainly are.

100% agree. Funny thing is I never once mentioned Dublin hurling. Just made fair points about the poor hurling structure in the county and how that translate into the county team. Unfortunately, these lads would rather defend the poor structure and the lack of drive from the county board than call it as it is. Simple as that. Some saying only 3 maybe 4 good teams and numbers etc but that is down to county board to promote and develop. There is plenty of good hurling teams in the county but there is no priority to develop it within the county. Not the clubs fault they are doing their best. Everyone things the county board is great now the appointed a manager within, they had no one else and feared further backlash from last year!!!!!!!

If you head back out to the main page you will find the Dublin forum and you might find a few fish to bite there

Giving credit to the CB for executing one task well and in a timely fashion doesn't mean everyone thinks they are doing an incredible job. You'll find a huge amount of skepticism on these boards in both codes. Particularly as you've alluded to in how the last appointment was handled not to mention fundraising activities.

Hurling thrives in a few a few pockets of the county, primarily in the Northern half. CTG you could argue have a wide pick across multiple towns/villages but they're the only strong team out of 4 in the south of the county. Outside of that the rest are 100% football focused.

I'd struggle to give the CB a pass on the development of hurling but we have to realise the resources on hand. This is something that has been the case for quite some time. The smaller rural clubs are struggling for numbers. Families are smaller and you won't see teams with a backbone of 6 brothers/cousins. There is less rural housing being built and families are building their lives in urban areas.

You can't ignore these facts. Several clubs only field 1 adult team now. Many underage teams are amalgamations to keep the show on the road. The only thing that can work is to double or triple the GDA staff with a sole focus on hurling in schools. Consistently training kids weekly in every single school. This is a 6 figure cost to OPEX which the county currently can't afford. You'd need government grants with Leinster or Croke Park to fund something like this.

Best of luck to KOB and his team in the year ahead. This is an underwhelming appointment. I would love to Know the KPIs used by our esteemed selection committee. Personally I would have him 3 out of the four names discuss here. Lets face facts outside of Clonkill 0 Results. I genuinely hope we haven't went eyes closed into another similar set up as last year.
