Not bad for a old team. Ports are a bit off being a good outfit yet, need some shooting practice and some team bonding.

Well done to the cran men, unreal simply unreal. Shout out to the younger boys on the panel I had my doubts have to admit but proved wrong and rightly so, young watson and Clarke played a fantastic game. Any word of ulster dates

What a brilliant final. Portaferry were very poor for most of ordinary time but came good when the Crans went down to 13 men and could have won it. Both teams gave everything they had and it's a pity there has to be a winner.

Some great scores from Woods and Sands and an amazing save from viper that would grace any County final in the land.

Pairc Esler is a great venue and hopefully the SHC will be back there next year.

The entertainment on the pitch was matched by the side line entertainment in front of the stand provided by Tusher. The acrobatics, gestures and howling at the moon was something to behold.

Someone in the crowd explained that it was his one man theatrical depiction of the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. Great stuff altogether.

Very disappointing result to take yesterday Portaferry missed far to many frees and missed more from open play where ballycran took all there scoring chances thought Portaferry won it right at the end when a point went over but ref blew final whistle paddy needs to work on his short puck outs as it put Portaferry under pressure to often and few fellas who are usually good at frees need to sharpen up but we'll go again next year and hopefully get the win. Don't know about final being back in newry all the Portaferry players and lot of supporters had to trek round the road after the boat went off which didn't help with some Portaferry players being late to the warm up etc. Keep the final in the ards in my opinion

I was at the game but have no connection to either club, I thought it was a brilliant 80 minutes entertainment and would make you proud to be involved in hurling. Portaferry made too many poor errors with frees and puckouts to win a county final, and still would probably have done it but for the outstanding save in extratime. The Portaferry wingback got 2 massive scores from play, I would have thought he would have been worth a go on some of the longer range frees considering the luck they were having on them all day.

What a brilliant final and a great advertisement for down hurling after a great championship. The match had everything, penalty, goals, red cards, yellow cards, super points from play, hard hitting tackles, what more could you want. I thought that the venue was brilliant, it created a great atmosphere and this was added too with the match ending under lights. Overall I thought the crans were the better team but the ports never lay down and everytime you thought they were dead and buried they came up with a goal or a few points to get them back in the game. There were some great performances from both teams as well with CT, Barry Trainor, and the 2 Sands from portaferry and then Woods, Phelim Savage, Nial Breen, stuart Martin, Egan and Clarke in the corners really shone too.
All in all a great final to watch and a fitting end to a thoroughly enjoyable championship and all the best to Ballycran in the Ulster now.

Final should continue to be in Newry in my opinion, atmosphere was electric and under the lights made it that bit better. Might be a bit of a journey but well worth it, especially if clubs are given time to organise supporters buses etc. As for the boat being put off, you should probably direct any queries about that to the Portaferry manager.

Special mention needs to be said to Conor woods. A mammoth game he had. Incredible how well he reads a game and can dictate a game from the number 6 truley inspiring to younger players I'm sure he'll make a great coach one day.

Sheehan would do very very well if he could entice him to the county for another year as there isn't a player like him at 6.

Yeah did hear rumours about the reason boat went off but also heard another that crew members feel out between themselves so you wouldn't know true story

Was it live-streamed/televised? Would've loved to have seen TG4 cover it. How many were in attendance?

You can find it on downtv, there's also a link on the down gaa facebook. Well worth the watch. Also was a very good attendance considering the late notice of venue change

Replying To keeper7:  "With only 4 teams in the senior championship, why is it being played at this hour of the year?"
I presume they delay it so that the champions don't have a big delay before they play in the Ulster championship. If everything runs smoothly next year it is likely to be played a few weeks earlier, but conditions were excellent on Sunday for the game. Pitch was in good order and weather was ideal.

The boat was off because they didn't have enough staff to cover this was cleared up Monday morning, I like you blamed the Portaferry manager that's why I phoned on Monday. As for the match it was a spectacular game it had everything hard tackles, missed chances, great saves, bad goalkeeping, some dodgy decisions, and unfortunately bad free taking all and all really enjoyed game as for my bad taste for the Portaferry manager earlier on in the day wot a job he's done with that young team they kept missing chances and he kept playing with youth, that team will come again and will become a force in down hurling. I for one hope he continues with Portaferry but I did hear that his time is up certain people looking him out.

Season in Down rounded off with good wins for Ballela and Shamrocks. Masterclass by Magee again and Ballela moving up will make for a very keenly contested JHC next year. Great result for Shamrocks and reflection of the hard yards put in by Shamrocks stalwarts over many years - None more so than our county senior manager. Carryduff have had a good season regardless of Sunday. Looking forward to the big Dunloy Slaughtneil game and hope Ballycran can do the business in final. Best of luck also to Ballela and Shamrocks in Ulster.
