This was an underage game it should be dealt with severly by the child welfare officers and the county board. How are half wits like this allowed be involved with teams? Who vets them? The draw has been made for the quarter finals of the football championship. Some interesting ties, the standout tie is Dunlavin against Rathnew - Dunlavin surprised Tinahely today which is a surprise to me as i thought Tinahely could go all the way, so much for that prediction. Can Dunlavin upset Rathnew? Baltinglass seem to be struggling so Donard will fancy their chances. My money will stay in my pocket, I think. This year has seen some unexpected results. The unbeaten teams need looking at, even allowing for the two surprise packets. Rathnew struggled against Bray and AGB had a good win here. Balto are struggling, as are Blessington to my mind. I think the winner might come out of the AGB v Pats tie, although I also think that whoever wants to win it will have to deal with Rathnew. Either way, the money stays in the pocket

Agree 100%. Clubs involved should also show leadership and cooperate fully with investigation and suspend there own members where appropriate. However I am not optimistic that will happen. They will probably circle the wagons.

I've seen a few championship matches this year and my conclusion is that there are no outstanding teams and no standout players. I am pessimistic for the county team based upon what i've seen. How can an entire championship not have a single standout player? Even if you think the standard of the championship is low, there are still standout players? Is the top scorer of a championship not a standout player? Did Tinahely (who you previously praised as having stand out players) who lost both games, not lose to some standout players? When I say a standout player, let me clarify. I am looking at it from the perspective of potential county players. Yes, there are players who stand out in matches that i have attended but would they stand out against higher class opposition if playing for the county in Division 3 or if we were to some how be promoted to Division 2 and I don't see these type of players. There are some good standard club players but do they have what it takes to move the next level and stand out on the inter county scene?

Thank you Moyles. To read and listen to the media, this kind of thing only happens in Wicklow. We are so backward. The story of the referee keeps being brought up. The County Board should and needs to punish clubs and individuals involved in these type of incidents to ensure it is stamped out. Equally the GAA as an organisation needs to acknowledge that this type of incidents happens throughout Ireland and do something to force county boards to clamp down on these type of events for everyone's benefit.

Back to the subject of the manager of the Wicklow Senior Footballers. It seems like many counties are making their arrangements early. Cork being the latest. Some of the jobs became vacant after ours and are now filled. I realise there is hardly scour for the job but surely it isn't that difficult to fill it. You are right, you would have expected a manager to be announced at this stage especially with the local championship reaching its conclusion. On the surface i wouldn't expect a long list of candidates but hopefully there is sufficient interest. This is an important appointment as the division three campaign will be very competitive and it is imperative that wevat least stay in the division and build upon what has been achieved in recent years.

I would imagine the brief is to take as long as it takes to get the "right" candidate. That's all fine and dandy but our last two managers, at least, and this is no slight of any of the many others we have had over the past number of years, have been out of the top drawer. Both have cut their tenure short. Nobody seems to ask why. I don't buy that one about latter day managers moving on after a couple of years. What manager would walk away if he thought he was on the cusp of a breakthrough with a county like Wicklow ? He would be immortalised in verse and song and could name his own ticket wherever he decided to move on to. No, there are other forces at play here - whether that be shortage of, or finance for, resources or just plain refusal to give the incumbent too much say in players or access to players. There is a story here somewhere, so the very best of luck to the new man whenever he is appointed. And I say again, whoever he is he will receive no criticism from this quarter, but he will need to nail down his "terms and conditions" pretty well at the outset or we will be back here again in a another year or two.

You would hope the delay is based on maybe looking to appoint/interview a management team still involved in the club championship. If we are going outside the county then the prospective manager has probably not seen a minute of club championship.

I agree. If it takes longer to get the right candidate, i would prefer this option than rushing the appointment and getting it wrong. In fairness to the county board/committe, they have got the last two appointments right so hopefully lessons have been learned from the past. In relation to Davy Burke's resignation i don't know the reasons - he seemed happy in Wicklow so maybe he wanted a shot at the Kildare job so didn't wang to compromise his position by being involved with Wicklow or as you say maybe it was about resources. Maybeche felt he didn't have enough players committed to the county to push on or maybe he felt the players in the county aren't there to push on for promotion to division 2. I assume someone knows the answers.

What are peoples thoughts on Colin Kelly being named manager?Have to say myself i was taken aback by it and was very underwhelmed had to google him, that might be my gaa knowledge letting me down.His track record with Louth looks impressive but Westmeath looks worrying,Im not convinced that hes of any higher quality than names that have been rumored but I am relieved that it isnt Kevin O Brien as I think he shouldnt be thrown into the deep end and should stick with the U20s for awhile more. Time will tell whether i was right to be underwhelmed but I wish him the best of luckand wont be calling for his head anytime soon. Best of luck to Colin Kelly and his management team. A manager with a strong track record of getting team promoted in the league which is where we need to focus as a county. Hopefully he can keep us in division 3 this year and push on for promotion to division 2. I hope Kevin remains on as under 20s boss. I would also like to see the county board put forward a proposal to croke park for funding in terms of team preparation, there seems to be a push from some of the weaker counties for this type of funding which is not before time considering the gulf in resources between the top teams and the rest in this regard. This is more a priority than what is being voted on in congress next weekend.
