Connacht GAA confirmed for the U.20 that in a three way tie, it's not score difference that will decide who tops the group it's the mini league between the 3 teams that determine the final placings.

Was that not for just national league only. It still applies to county championship competitions

Big week for Sligo Football. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1742 - 16/04/2024 15:22:07 2538360 Link 0 |
Some good games to look forward to. I really hope we can dig something out against mayo tomorrow night. These lads have turned up when it really mattered before so fingers crossed. I don't know too much about the u17s but an encouraging game last Fri in tuam. The seniors, I think Galway will be too strong but I don't feel the gap is as big as last year. Hopefully we get in and rattle them early and make some sort of a contest out of it. Sligostyle (Sligo) - Posts: 7 - 16/04/2024 15:41:39 2538365 Link 0 |
For me I just find it very hard to accept the u20s not being in the top 3 in Connacht this year. I see Marren back starting and I just get the feeling he will deliver a big performance tomorrow and continue where he left off the last day. With everything on the line I would be surprised if we don't win tomorrow. I just can't see us continuing to play so poorly. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1742 - 16/04/2024 16:32:30 2538375 Link 1 |
I genuinely believe if we can get a win tonight we will make the connaught final. We have only shown glimpses so far but hopefully tonight is the night it finally clicks. They will be delighted to have this opportunity as going into injury time against Leitrim it looked certain our season was over. Sligostyle (Sligo) - Posts: 7 - 17/04/2024 11:10:51 2538540 Link 0 |
Three big games in the next few days. Meat Loaf had a song 2 out of 3 ain't bad. I would settle for that. I give out senior team no chance against Galway. They are a Div 1 outfit and held on to that status despite a lot of injuries. While I would love a victory I don't want to play for Sam. A good performance would keep me happy and we can concentrate on the Tailteann Cup . The minor's had a great result against Galway last week, we need to keep on progressing at this level, unfortunately last year was poor so the aim had to be a semifinal at least. I have zero interest in winning the Shield. That brings us to the game this evening. My heart says Sligo but my head won't agree with that. We are very lucky to still be in the competition , I don't think we deserved anything from the Roscommon or Leitrim game. I hope I am wrong but playing Mayo in Castlebar is too much for a team that's playing poorly. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1997 - 17/04/2024 17:32:48 2538674 Link 0 |
It took them a while but that's more like the team we know. muscles (Sligo) - Posts: 466 - 17/04/2024 20:20:34 2538710 Link 0 |
That was a fantastic win by Sligo U20s 14 - 9 after being 7-3 down at HT. Totally dominated the 2nd half and consumed Mayo completely. The intensity was great to watch. So much heart in this team. There were a lot of mistakes but beating Mayo in Castlebar feels great and hopefully that 2nd half is the catalyst. We play Galway next week in a neutral venue. Winners play Roscommon in final. Keep it lit. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1742 - 17/04/2024 20:22:23 2538711 Link 0 |
Just something that may go unnoticed is Sligo Ladies, the minors beat Galway 4-13 to 3-4 tonight in the Connacht Championship. Fair play to all involved. Some great results at underage the last few years. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1742 - 17/04/2024 21:22:21 2538717 Link 0 |
Outstanding second half performance. Huge momentum going into the Galway game. Our bench is starting to look stronger now too. Sligostyle (Sligo) - Posts: 7 - 17/04/2024 21:31:36 2538721 Link 0 |
You are harsh on last years minors. They showed very well against Galway in Markievicz. Hit 8 wides to Galways 2 and only lost by 4pts. All they were missing was an strong inside forward. People forget they should have had Eli Rooney which I felt and still feel would have go them over the line in more games. They lost there way a bit after that drawing with Leitrim and well beaten against Roscommon. The finished off by drawing with Mayo in castlebar and hammering Leitrim in the shield final after being 4 pts down at HT. I do agree on the shield but still that Connacht championship could have went a different way for us. This year whilst the draw against Galway in Tuam is a notable start we still look like scoring will be an issue so we will have to play to our strengths with our defensive set up. I am not sure if I rate Galway that highly. Mayo looked very good against Roscommon and Leitrim concern me. We will have to play well to win on Friday. I don't think I have been gladder you were wrong about tonight. It was great to hear the joy in my Dads voice leaving Castlebar tonight. Winning there cannot be underestimated. This team have the dog in them and don't know how to quit. The execution levels have dropped and certain players have regressed but the subs made big impacts so it will take a hell of team to knock us out now, if any. Galway looked beatable against us and they will be sickened not to be in final. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1742 - 17/04/2024 21:37:32 2538723 Link 0 |
Well I did say we weren't overly defensive more so weather ruining matches. I'm not surprised that Sligo won tonight and I won't be surprised if you beat Galway in the semi final next week.

That's 3 wins in a row for Sligo against Mayo, making it a habit. Makes for a very interesting semi final next week against Galway.

Shane Walsh starting for Galway. Named at 11. I am hoping Mullen picks him up. Hard to see him being 100% match fit so hopefully he can be contained. Comer named on the bench. He will probably come on if they are in trouble. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1742 - 18/04/2024 21:49:43 2538932 Link 0 |
Will be an interesting game tonight, it finished level last year when they played in Fr Manning Cup with Leitrim going on to narrowly lose the final. Sligo have the benefit of a game under their belt so hopefully some lessons learned from last week might see Sligo just get over the line but this will be close game. muscles (Sligo) - Posts: 466 - 19/04/2024 11:26:09 2538995 Link 0 |
Hope Galway don't turn up tomorrow. Really wouldn't know how to set up against them. Do we play for damage limitation or do we just have a go ? I really enjoy following this Sligo team and hope they can give all tomorrow and move on from the game... whether in CF or TC. I'd love to see us give the TC a right go this year. It would be another positive step in our development. Sligeach abu SligoScot (Sligo) - Posts: 42 - 19/04/2024 13:11:27 2539021 Link 0 |
I am delighted to have got the U20 prediction wrong. Sometimes we curse the fact that we don't have any luck. This team are certainly pulling every last ounce of luck out of the pot. Terrible first half where we should have been beaten out the gate and then in the second half a completely transformation where we sucked the life out of Mayo. Three years in a row we have beaten Mayo in 3 different venues, 2 of those venues on Mayo soil. I see both teams are named for tomorrow. I don't pass any heed of team selections anymore. If you had 2 broken legs the mgt might still decide to name you on these dummy team's. I'm certain that we will not play as selected. We will have at least 2 changes. That's a strong Galway side even if Walsh or Comer don't play. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1997 - 19/04/2024 15:43:53 2539072 Link 0 |
Even when he's fit Shane can be anonymous in a lot of games. He did nothing in the Connacht final last year for example. When he's on it he's really on it though, galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1291 - 19/04/2024 16:08:02 2539079 Link 0 |
Sligo minors 0-9 Leitrim minors 0-8, massive win. There are a lot of good players on this team, they show great intensity. It was edge of the seat stuff and tight the whole way through. The only reason it was tight was because of the bad wides by us. Our shot selection and execution was poor at times. Must have had 15+ wides. We were dominant in a lot of areas and deserved to win. Showed great character at 8-7 down. Some great last gasp blocks and turnovers. Our interplay is very good. If we can just find our accuracy it would push us on. Fair play to all.
