Replying To Sligobuck21:  "Looks like a lot of movement in managers this year. Anybody heard of any clubs on the hunt or managers moving anywhere?

Looking forward to the return of the county teams after Christmas. Hopefully we can push on after our league campaign last year and try be in the top half of division 3 pushing for promotion. I don't think it's an unrealistic target. I've still not heard of a whole amount of lads getting called in to the squad. Are they back training yet and if so is there any word on newcomers to look out for. Looking forward to seeing if Kevin McLoughlin can bring his experience as a Mayo player to the Sligo team and hopefully have valuable input. I'd imagine this will be McEntee's last year and he will be eyeing up the Armagh job so a solid campaign this year would do him the world of good for that.

Disappointing to see the lack of games played in the u20 club championship. But it's not unexpected. It's a competition that I don't think clubs or players buy into and doesn't fit in to the calendar.

The standard of club football in Sligo unfortunately isn't where it needs to be if we want to be progressing up the divisions. A hammering from Roscommon champions who then had a tight match against the Leitrim champions doesn't look great for us. Is our senior standard that far behind or was it just a bad day for Coolera/Strandhill?
I wasn't at the Easkey match but by all accounts they put in a good performance and weren't far away.
Hopefully Owenmore Gaels can bring home a cup in the Junior A, if they get it right on the day I don't see why they can't.

Sligeach Abú"
Not sure we're at promotion level just yet but certainly remaining in division 3 is a must. I'm not sure if there are fixtures out yet but Wicklow, Limerick, Antrim are games we should be targeting for wins be they away or at home. Down and Westmeath will probably be the favourites to go up and I don't think we'd have the beating of either unless the winter brings some surprises.

All the best to Easkey this weekend in hurling and Owenmore next week.

Well I suppose your belief that our club football is "better than that" has AGAIN been sadly exposed makes me wonder what your belief was based on. Sligo club football unfortunately akin to the Toy Show, light entertainment.

Good luck to Owenmore Gaels today. Unreal to be playing a match in December in fantastic conditions. Castleconnor had a good win in the U.20 B last night over Tourlestrane. Tonight is the A final between Drumcliffe/Rosses Point and Eastern Harps.

Owenmore will have regrets, had the chances to win the game but did not take them. There best players are still very young, D Walsh really one for the future.

The curtain has come down on all GAA activities for the year with the exception of the hurlers from Easkey. Any club that failed to field in either or both of the U.20 or U.19 competition can't really expect to make much progress .Any club involved in the Connacht Club games can be forgiven. . No excuse for not fielding in the middle of summer before the start of the Adult championship. Looking back over the year we did what we set out to do with the Co team getting out of Div 4 in football. Did brilliant to retain the U.20 crown then beat Kerry in the semi final and got cursed with injuries for the All Ireland Final losing to Kildare. The minor team were very poor which must be a source of concern. I don't know enough about hurling to make a comment. The Ladies were poor but at underage they had a good year. Looking forward to next year we have 4 home games in Div 3 which is brilliant as home games really count for a lot. I expect we will comfortably keep our Div 3 status and hopefully we might challenge for promotion.. We will be leaving 2023 in a better position than this time last year which is positive progress

Brilliant Christmas gift to all the club's from J.P.Mc Manus. It will be a great lift to the club's, hopefully it will be spent wisely. I don't know how many clubs is in Sligo.Clubs are beginning to put management teams in place for next year. Shamrock Gaels are first to unveil a new manager. Shane King gets the nod. Shane was involved under the last mgt team and the Eastern Harps man beat off local opposition to secure the position for next year. I haven't heard anything from any other club.

Curry have Jarlath Jennings from Mayo.
Tubber as previously mentioned have home grown mgt which is brilliant to see.
Shamrock Gaels have Shane King.
As far as I'm aware Tourlestrane, Geevagh and Coolera are still without a manager . Michaels couldn't keep a manager last year so I doubt if they have anyone yet.
I wonder will Mark Breheny vacate Mary's, and will O Flaherty part company with Drumcliffe. Gormley will hardly stay with the Bunnies. Liam Og will stay with Ballymote.Langan will be staying with Molaise, Donovan is staying with Harps. Same mgt for Owenmore Gaels and Calry. I'm hearing that Coolera may also be looking for a manager which is a surprise. I know nothing about St. John's or West Sligo.
Seems to be a bit of change in Coolaney as the entire top table of the exec have indicated that they are stepping down at the AGM. That's according to their Facebook page. They are also seeking a manager I believe. Can anyone fill in the blanks. ?

A much tidier presentation than my effort. To answer the previous poster about new faces in the squad I know a few of last year's U.20 team were added plus a few others that I don't know much about. In general the entire panel is quite young so there's no retirements that I am aware of. I know a few left the panel because they weren't getting game time which was fair enough. I'm assuming that Gerard O Kelly Lynch is concentrating on hurling this year as he was playing last week with the hurlers and dual players on the Co scene are a thing of the past. It would be nice to release the team today rather than waiting until the last minute. It's basically a challenge game against our neighbours and both teams won't be fielding anything close to this team at the end of January for the first round of the league. Martin Breheny in his column in the Indo basically said all these warm up games are the graveyard for a lot of footballers. If they don't pass the test in these games they might never see the jersey again .

The second half against Roscommon was very good. For the first time in over 16 years I saw a Sligo team win around the middle. We must have kicked over 17 wides to Roscommons 2 or 3. Huge amount of passing errors in first half and to be fair a massive improvement in the second half. How good Roscommon are ??? time will tell. Positives for Sligo are that we looked a bulkier and mobile outfit in the second half. The Dome is a bit false as to how league will be played out on heavy grass . I'm going to keep the faith and hope we can kick on from today as Division 3 football shouldn't find us out. The panel looks united and its up to McEntee to get the best out of them... no excuses

A bad loss yesterday evening but that game played in the dome is very far removed from what we will be getting at the end of Jan below in Clare. Lovely mannerly game with very little contact, both teams intent on staying injury free for bigger games ahead. Murphy, Carrabine, Spillane,MC Guinness,Kilcoyne,Cummins, Cawley, Mullen, have all to return plus a few lads that came on as subs will also be starting in Clare. Hopefully the mgt saw a few bright sparks that will help us out going forward. I don't think we will get promoted but if we did we could easily be playing the Rossies in the league next year. ))

Yes Anto, Big name surely. Will the older lads give it another year. A few of them have a lot of miles on the clock and have had a brilliant career with Tourlestrane

Im hearing 1 lad has decided to hang up the boots after a stellar career. 1 or 2 going travelling also so may be a chance for some of the younger lads.

Any more rumblings of managerial appointments many clubs still on the hunt? On a different note it may be interesting to see if st michaels are subjected to the drop to junior b or if they will be spared

How do we forecast the league going this year? I think we'll avoid the drop and finish mid table which to me would be a good achievement given how we spent a long enough spell in Division 4.

With 4 home games against Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath and Antrim its a great chance to consolidate our league status. Should be targeting Limerick away as a win too. You would imagine that Down and Westmeath will be red hot favourites to be promoted and I don't think our lads would beat them either unless there's been some good progress made over the winter months. Even a draw on Sunday would be a great start but Clare will be favourites on home turf.
