I recall seeing ye lose a Championship Qualifier match to Leitrim 7 years ago this weekend.

Congratulations Louth on the season just gone. As alluded to, the Leinster title really came at the end of this team's cycle rather than a new beginning. In time it will be looked at it as the culmination of years of toil by some great servants, which when you think about it is a most satisfactory story arc. The new beginning for Louth will have to come from the crop of underage lads who now have the 2025 team to look to for belief and inspiration. BTW, Leinster final 2025 will make great viewing at about 4pm on December 27th, over a few pints by a fire somewhere. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1265 - 23/06/2025 12:20:50 2620231 Link 1 |
We have Sat nav's on vehicles in Donegal not that someone from Leitrim would know about that?

Oh God, yes the Pete McGrath season :( Lost to Carlow in the provincials, then beat London and lost to Leitrim over in Carrick. That might be their last win to date in the Championship.. Eight of the men that togged out for us that day now have Leinster medals. moresthepity (Louth) - Posts: 241 - 23/06/2025 16:14:13 2620387 Link 0 |
A very good year for Louth heightened by their marvellous Leinster win…. But like Cavan Louth were out of their depth in the ridiculous group stages even though we somehow beat Mayo…. When the real contenders take to the field ( Mayo never really one of them ) it's lights out … But for a woeful Clare side in your group Louth would not have had to endure the pasting Donegal handed out. ( we got the same ) … Louths main focus now like ours should be to remain in Division 2… Meath done the heavy lifting by knocking out the Dubs but it could be another 10 years until they loose in Leinster again… Enjoy your time as Leinster Champions ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 4182 - 23/06/2025 17:37:40 2620446 Link 1 |
Not too mention the Championship of 2017 where Longford ended our season even then a Leinster title would have being nothing more than a pipe dream in this lifetime. francie81 (Louth) - Posts: 249 - 23/06/2025 17:55:34 2620456 Link 0 |
I think your missing the fact that yes indeed a great year all round for us in that we have raised the eye nationally with the underage strides clearly evident, your talking as though this was a flash in a pan in Leinster indeed the typical derogatory talk coming from Ulster. Of course the Dubs will be back perhaps to the golden era of the 6-in-a-row but as of now its every other counties opportunity within the province to close in on them in getting there house in order at grass roots and that's exactly what I believe is finally happening here in Louth. Without using excuses for the no show at the group stage but when you win a title for the first time in 68 years the natural occurrence of a hangover transpired as much anticipated by many in the circle so I think its very foolish to be comparing your season to that of ours although again maybe the status of being in Ulster gives you that right.

Louth are a better team than Meath. The last 3 teams we hammered them 12 months ago in the Championship, then beat them easily in the league 3 months ago and last month beat them in the Leinster Final when we never played well. DundalkGael (Louth) - Posts: 955 - 24/06/2025 13:06:43 2620668 Link 3 |
Best of Luck to Meath in QF, Louth very happy with Leinster Title and Delaney Cup in the Display cabinet after 68 years...still a big deal for us.

Well done on your success this season in Louth and I hope you build on it next year, was nice to meet all the good humoured folks from the wee county in the Ballybofey. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3300 - 25/06/2025 17:45:48 2621052 Link 1 |
As the dust settles and you look back what a year 2025 has been for the Wee County. The Seniors winning Leinster for the first time since 1957, the under 20s winning Leinster for the first time since 1981 and reaching the All Ireland final for the first time ever and the minors reaching the Leinster final and just came short in both the final and all Ireland quarter-final. Roll on the Louth Championship! Ollie2 (Louth) - Posts: 1075 - 27/06/2025 18:01:45 2621599 Link 0 |
Will Ger take the Dublin gig ? louthman57 (Louth) - Posts: 315 - 29/06/2025 09:16:37 2621964 Link 0 |
I would say that it is between Ger and Pat Gilroy if either is interested. However as I think both work and live in Dublin, there will be no getting away from managing Dublin in their daily jobs and wider home environment. Underage has not been great in Dublin for a few years while Louth have being doing very well. Would they want the extra pressure of rebuilding a Dublin team while Meath, Louth and Kildare are all improving in Leinster. While Dublin have a huge pick of players it is a pressure gig/job.

Have to agree it will be very interesting to see how it plays out because like I said previous I don't believe Louth's success is a flash in the pan and I hope Ger will stay on based solely on that despite other pros in the Dublin vacancy.

Been away from forum for while but wondering what happened to Conor Early? Was he just dropped from the panel or was it injury? Benjani (Louth) - Posts: 49 - 29/06/2025 15:22:08 2622098 Link 0 |

Can't imagine Pat Gilroy will want to go again. Big commitment. Hard for Ger to refuse but tough time to take over with Dublin unless he managed to get Fenton back for another year
