The average age of inter-county senior gaelic football teams typically ranges between 24 and 27 years old, depending on age and competition year.

- Younger Teams (around 23-24) are often in rebuilding phase

-Peak Teams (around 25-27) usually have a strong mix of experience and youth

-Older Teams (27 +) may be experienced but could face physical challenges

In recent years, All-Ireland winning teams have tended to have an average age of around 26 years old. However it can vary depending on squad rotation and retirements.

I bring this up as it is a weak excuse being brought up on repeat by Carlow media and the team setup 'this is a young team'. I'll save you the time and let you know our current football crop is 26.5 years old on average. Can someone please explain to me how this is a young team? It's soon entering the latter.

The main point is the misleading narrative often portrayed by radio, the nationalist, county board. These bodies are willing to tell lies or bend the truth so long as the responsibility doesn't fall on their doorstep. Football is in a extremely dark place at the moment and I don't see much evidence that anything is being done about it.

Arguments are welcome.

That's genuinely depressing. Is the hurling team younger than the footballers?

It wouldn't surprise me.

Definitely not I would say. Most of the hurlers are late 20s and some 30s at this stage. A handful of early 20s but not many.
