@Overthebar53 same as Barrowsider no comment after Wicklow game. Limerick have operated at a much higher level this year than Carlow , played the likes of Dublin , Derry. Plenty of things didnt go well for Carlow Sataurday but it wasnt from the lack of effort.Less negativity and more positivity towards team and management. No strategy in place for when teams press the kickout. There was no movement or runs being made to give Furey an option, he had no other choice but to go long.

What's your problem. This is a forum to post opinions on games and gaa related stuff, that's what I do. Nothing personal so calm yourself down there missy. We are conceding to many scores, we need a more defensive approach, I think we are capable of getting a result against Longford if we shut up shop and even If that doesn't yield a win it will keep the scoring difference down which will be crucial in taking that final 3rd place spot and make the preliminary quarters Barrowsider (Carlow) - Posts: 1671 - 22/05/2023 11:17:28 2480404 Link 0 |
Are Carlow not guaranteed third place on the head-to-head? Given they beat Wicklow? Agree on defensive approach. But we had that some years ago, and it yielded great results... but a lot of people wanted the good times to end. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 742 - 22/05/2023 15:25:21 2480580 Link 0 |
Carlow are guaranteed 3rd place but only 3 of the best 3rd placed teams progress. New York take the 4 place. It will come down to score difference on which teams lose out. You could have all 4 3rd placed teams on the same points but the score difference will be vital. I'm hoping we can get a result against Longford but if we can't we have to make sure we don't take a hiding. Longford ran Limerick to a goal & hammered Wicklow so looks a step up for me but please god we can do it

The group with Tipp and Waterford could be the worst score difference. As long as we keep it close Sunday (hopefully win) we should be fine. carlovia (None) - Posts: 1525 - 22/05/2023 16:05:26 2480595 Link 0 |
Ideally we need Tipp to beat Waterford as their scoring difference is very bad. A Waterford win and if we lose it could get very tight between us and them. I do t like the idea of parking the bus to keep the score down though. It's only Longford. Yes they're very probably better than us alright but we could beat them if we try. I wasn't at the wicklow game so I didn't comment. Are you insinuating that I was disappointed with the wicklow result.? What arrant nonsense. I specifically mentioned in my post that the players were getting short shrift from the management if Saturday was any indicator. No plan whatsoever that I could decifer at least. No kickout strategy once Limerick pressed. No strategy to deal with Limerick kickout unless you consider giving them free ball every time a coherent strategy. Perhaps you do. Playing dara midfield as a sweeper when everyone knows his most (only) effective position is up front. Mikey bambrick was our main attack plan, he's the full back not superman. Our midfield is a one man band but nothing was done all game to rectify this. I m well aware we don't exactly have a surfeit of talent but you don't sit on your hands and watch them being destroyed.

Massive weekend for the hurlers. Offaly are favourites but that's nothing new to Carlow are going into the McDonagh Cup this year only Down were lower in the betting. I believe we can pull it off if the lads bring their A game. One thing I noticed which annoys me a small bit is the amount of underage games fixed for Saturday. I know these fixtures were organised well in advance but this is essentially an All Ireland final for the county. Surely the county board could of reorganised these fixtures for the Friday and/or Sunday as to encourage/enable as many supporters to travel to croke Park as possible. It's also important for young kids to see their county on the big stage and aspire to be the same. Anyway best of luck to the team, I'll be there cheering them on with my son. Ceatharlach Abu! Your right a massive weekend for our hurlers. Offaly are definitely favourites but we are in the final now & if we play as well as we can I believe we will do it. There should be no fixtures on Saturday afternoon/evening as this is an All Ireland Final for us. I have no problem with the early games on Saturday morning ( go games) as they will be over before noon. On another note its sad to see the lack of colour for this final. I didn't see one Carlow flag around the town yesterday & its such a pity. Its a great chance to promote the game & get our young people interested. It's not just the town i have seen very few flags out the countryside either. If the footballers were in the Tailteann cup final there would be flags everywhere. I know the footballers tradionally get a far better support but it's a shame as the hurlers have given us some massive days over the years. Anyway best wishes to the entire panel for Saturday. We will be there to shout ye on carlo (Carlow) - Posts: 228 - 23/05/2023 14:59:59 2480946 Link 1 |
Very well said carlo. It's a terrible pity that there's not more carlow flags and colour up and about. I'd hazard a guess that there's plenty don't even realise carlow are in the final. Anyway hopefully all goes well on the day and we manage to bring the cup home again.

Congratulations to all our good friends in Carlow with whom we have had so many battles.Your team are warriors and if there was a shortage of flags there they certainly wasnt in Croke Park. Both teams brought great colour and a magnificent match.Enjoy.
