Big result from Mayo, we need to win 2mo now. Getting nothing handy in breffini. Is it head-to-head in the round robin? If thats the case, wed need to win the next two games, but even if we did, if tyrone beat cavan in the last match, they top the group on the head-head against donegal?? So we need more snookers. Saying that anyone could win this group gaeltacht81 (Donegal) - Posts: 7 - 31/05/2025 21:05:49 2613820 Link 0 |
If tomorrow wasn't a big enough game already that's ramped up after tonight's result. I think I commented that Mayo have a history of playing to the level of their opponents and tonight was further proof. The group is now wide open given the scoring difference. Tyrone lauded all over the media this week barring but the reality was that if Patton played Donegal would've won. To be fair Tomas O'Shea and Muggsy were among the few who highlighted the importance of not having Patton had on the final result. That being said we must be much sharper tomorrow than last week and not be over reliant on a couple of players especially Michael Murphy. If Patton doesn't play I'm sure Cavan will really put the heat on and we'd take any positive result and get out of there. Sad news regarding Jason if true. I think he spent much of the winter trying to get right including time in the UK. He was over exposed too young and it's been injury after injury since. Ironically I remember him taking a particularly heavy knock just out of minor in Breffini in a league match and it's been a catalogue of injuries since. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2868 - 31/05/2025 21:40:37 2613833 Link 0 |
Just need to concentrate on tomorrow as it's a proper banana skin. Lose and we will probably exit unless we beat Mayo convincingly as if Tyrone beat Cavan, 3 teams on 2 points would go to scoring difference Betting wise though the crazy thing even with this battering, Mayo are still the most likely team to finish last and be eliminated. If Donegal beat Cavan and Mayo and Tyrone beat Cavan, Mayo are still gone shaggykev (Donegal) - Posts: 352 - 31/05/2025 21:41:14 2613834 Link 0 |
I would love to beat Mayo but Jesus when was the last time we did?

We've a poor record against them recently alright. They always play us with a chip on their shoulder post 2012. Looking at tonight if we face them without Patton and the couple of big men we're currently down I wouldn't be too optimistic as they'll destroy us around the middle. Anyways that's for down the line as tomorrow has big banana skin all over it as alluded to already especially if Patton cannot tog out.

We can't top the group at the moment as we have 0 points and ar bottom of the group, hopefully that will change By this evening. It will depend who we have available and also on our attitude. I think our performance levels last week would have seen lose to alot of teams, I didn't think tyrone were particularly impressive, even though they deserved their win.

Highly unlikely we have ability to top group as Tyrone will beat Cavan first very likely to beat Cavan in last match so if we take four points from Cavan and Mayo, we'd lose on head to heads. As other posters said though, we will worry about that at 4pm onwards. bag of nerves for today. Think the spread is totally wrong and cannot see Donegal winning by 7 or more shaggykev (Donegal) - Posts: 352 - 01/06/2025 11:22:23 2613946 Link 0 |
Absolutely battered they it seems. Highly unlikely to come down to points difference now though for us. Likely finish 2nd or 3rd. A draw with Mayo wouldn't be the worst result either. eddieSize5Balls (Donegal) - Posts: 156 - 01/06/2025 16:04:22 2614024 Link 0 |
I'd rest the team against Mayo and gear up for the preliminary and qf back to back joeteor (Donegal) - Posts: 235 - 01/06/2025 16:19:01 2614027 Link 1 |
Congrats to the donegal team today on a really great result. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3849 - 01/06/2025 16:34:17 2614029 Link 0 |
After watching us dismantle Cavan there. Very impressive. When we open up we have some football in us. Hungry, combative and relentless. Felt today everyone stepped up as we needed. Looked like a team not ready to finish the summer anytime early. Derrick display. All we could ask for. Get ready for 2 weeks time now. Wish we could but if Cavan beat or draw v Tyrone, we are out. Unlikely I know but can't just rest players though maybe hold MM until 2nd half just in case. Strange one. Mayo cannot lose. We probably can. Do we wanna kill ourselves here and potentially empty tank for prelim and quarter final? (Cannot see scenario of topping group) Mayo are useless at home so maybe both teams could take her handy and play out a draw and guarantee we both progress. shaggykev (Donegal) - Posts: 352 - 01/06/2025 17:06:19 2614054 Link 0 |
Id play the percentages, better chance of getting to a semifinal resting against Mayo I think, 3 weeks in a row is very very difficult.

I'd agree in theory. If we could get the bodies through Mayo ok and fluke a draw against a team from group 2 or 3, I'd say the semi-finals is back in our sights after last weeks detour.

Ridiculous comment. So you'd rest the team?? ... and if we lost to Mayo and Cavan beat Tyrone we would be out. Mayo and Cavan would be on 4 points , Tyrone and Donegal would be on 2, so Tyrone would go thru on head to head rule.

Was watching Termon in the Gaeltacht on TG4 there, looked very impressive have a good mix of big men and pacey players. gaelicloverdonegal (Donegal) - Posts: 3 - 01/06/2025 19:32:03 2614114 Link 0 |
There's an argument to be made that Donegal should field a weakened team from start and sub on better players at end. If Mayo beat Donegal, Tyrone can't finish top - so in that scenario they should sub off their strong players to protect them. SurelyToGod (Donegal) - Posts: 462 - 01/06/2025 19:45:46 2614119 Link 0 |
What a stupid post? If Cavan beat Tyrone ( unlikely ) we are out. Otherwise if Mayo beat us we are away to a second place team. Certainly not ideal.

Good day out, rain stayed away and got a straight run up n down, no tailbacks. We looked very good in the second half, eoghan ban i thought made a big difference, the speed, height and experience. Donegal have a lot of very quick players and it makes a massive difference. We've played 6 of the 8 ulster teams in this years championship, tough attritation derby games. We're out against Mayo in two weeks and if we get by them, which is no guarentee, we could potentially have another 2 games in croke park. Thats 3 hugh games in 3 weeks. Their amateur players...its a massive ask to get to the semi final this year. The layout of the competition is completely lop-sided and needs to be fairer. You could potentially have an all ireland winner this year thats not the best team in the country. Even the finalists not being the two best teams in the competition. But listen, im being 100% biased given donegals situation gaeltacht81 (Donegal) - Posts: 7 - 01/06/2025 20:19:13 2614136 Link 0 |
And if Mayo beat Donegal and Cavan beat Tyrone, donegal would be out. The only way Donegal can guarantee going through is to draw or win against Mayo, so in reality we have to go for the win, keepmour own destiny in our own hands, don't hand it over to another team.
