Not in this particular case, no local journalists listed. Someone from within our own County is selling us out.

Replying To Commodore:  "I think an urgent review of the Irish Revenue gestapo is needed, possibly a revisit of their powers and what tax should or should not apply to.

Ireland in recent years is being turned into the Soviet Union control the people mentality, with needing to provide reasons for taking cash out of your bank acc or Credit Union, last week we were asked for why we wanted $200 USD cash in Letterkenny. When asking why, "Monitoring for money laundering" was the generic answer.

We have to pay property tax on a house we buy, and allow the government agencies to trace all money we earn and have already paid income tax on. Next we will need "papers" to travel by bus or train to the next town in the name of State security."
You need to get on the cypto gravy train!

Sports journos would be in attendance at all County Conventions hoping for a bit of a story. And the accounts are published anyway. Thankfully that's all they can come up with this year, and not the internal squabbling of the last few years.

I'd say no other county has to pay the travel expenses that Donegal has. Along with the size of the county, you have to take into account the cost of lads travelling from colleges etc. And that figure isn't just the Senior squad, but all the squads. Yes the figure is high, but such is the price of success.

No expenses spared when McGuinness is on board! Obscene money, to be fair I know McGuinness brings in a fair share through fundraising etc

Most counties have lads travelling from all 4 corners. Donegal no greater spend in that regard than anyone else.

However, the spending on a training camp is crazy. When I think of the money shortages for other things in the county then a 5star trip to Abu Dabi seems ridiculous. 100k in a 5 star hotel for a camp? I'm not against going away for a sun camp but lavish spending seems overly excessive.

Headline figures are one thing. Seemingly fundraising efforts absolutely dwarfed those of 2023. For context.

Speaking of excessive travel I feel for the Urris, Malin etc. delegates having to leave for Pettigo this afternoon for the convention not landing back home until probably 1pm in the morning!

Yes all Counties have players travelling from all 4 corners, but the distance to Donegal is further from those corners.

I'd say the average players commute to Convoy is approx 50km each way. Those with shorter distances are the exceptions, not the rule.

I agree that Abu Dhabi sounds extravagant, but if the figure you quote of 100k is accurate, then it works out at approx 2k a man, I don't think that is extortionate. I'd say it's actually good value, you'd pay as much for Center Parcs in tropical Longford.

I'm all for the lavish trips.
These lads give up so much of there personal time for Donegal Gaa that they deserve to be rewarded with a trip. Also its Jim McGuinness we all know they will be worked to the core while over there but it will bond the team closer.

Agree. These are young men who live like professional athletes most of the year, looking after what they eat, limiting their social lives etc. plus the time they put into training and gym sessions every week. A trip away is the least they deserve.

Yeah I doubt they'll be going to many brunches when they're there.
I'd assume that this is a combination of a team holiday (rewarding their great efforts last year) and an opportunity to get some good training done. I don't have any problem with it.

But it does look like the Revenue are starting to pay more heed to the black economy a lot of GAA teams operate in. So long as there is transparency and the county can afford it, I don't see much wrong with it. If we're lucky enough to be celebrating in Croke Park next July I doubt too many will care all that much.

Absolutely nothing gets leaked from a tight Jimmy Mc group.

Ask big Cass how he got on with it….

It was a little bit unfortunate from a PR perspective that County Convention, the Training Camp and the release of the Christmas edition of the 50/50 draw all came together. Anyway, I got my 12 tickets for 50, and if the squad have a fruit juice with it in Abu Dhabi I'd be happy enough.
