McFadden-Ferry is in Australia and unfortunately suffered another ACL injury. I'm not sure what his plans are or how his rehab is going. But he's the type of player you'd imagine would thrive under McGuinness if he got a good run at it. The ship may have sailed though...

Jim wont be here past 2026 in my opinion. Think he will do a job with us, help rebuild but I dont think he really wants to stay long term. eddieSize5Balls (Donegal) - Posts: 87 - 12/06/2024 21:14:46 2551084 Link 0 |
With all due respect, a lot of the players you mentioned have been part of many panels and didnt do much. Role players maybe but there surely is better players out there who are younger and offer more. Eoin McHugh would be the best of them but he must be almost 30 now. eddieSize5Balls (Donegal) - Posts: 87 - 12/06/2024 21:16:56 2551085 Link 0 |

I hope the team have learnt from the Cork game and are not complacent at the weekend. Too many people posting on here about getting high scores, the focus has to be on winning the game, nothing else. If we win the game , we're still in the championship, if we win by 3 points and Tyrone do us a favour, that's an added bonus. greenfan (Donegal) - Posts: 577 - 13/06/2024 12:55:05 2551182 Link 0 |
3 point win won't be enough if Tyrone win by 8/9 for example. We need to win by 12/13.

I don't think complacency was what lost the game in Cork, Cork were better on the day and we were showing the signs of a tough Ulster campaign and a massive game with Tyrone 6 days earlier imo, I think we will be in a lot better shape on Saturday and Clare will be given the respect they deserve, your right we have to focus on winning our own game, what happens in Tyrone v Cork is out of our control. Clare will be missing one of their midfielders who was red carded to last day I think, hope we have Jason back fit again, he is vital for us imo the most important player we have. You're spot on, there were definite signs of fatigue in cork and it was a mountain to climb after conceding those two quick goals (the third cork goal was one that wouldn't happen 9 times out of ten with the way the ball bounced so we just didn't get the rub of the green to make matters worse). I don't think complacency came into it. Jason is a massive player but i don't think he'll be risked if there's any issue at all with the hamstring. If I remember right, last year he came on in the match down in Ennis at half time and was one of the main players to turn the game round for us after a very frustrating first half. He makes a huge difference to the team so fingers crossed we see him back asap.

Yeah the focus needs to be on winning the game first and foremost. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9517 - 13/06/2024 14:27:38 2551211 Link 1 |
Looking at the weather apps its looking like rain in the morning but to clear up for the afternoon so hopefully we aren't like drowned rats like our last outing in castlebar. Don't want to take clare for granted at all is a game to be won but would have to be hopeful that our forwards can click and put up a decent score. Even though the result didn't go our way in Cork the lads brought it back level from 5 points down and vork didn't secure the victory until basically the last kick of the ball if that controversial overcarrying call doesn't go against us is ever chance we coming up the road with a draw. Bit like after we beat derry feel a lot in the media getting carried away with themselves writing our demise after the Cork defeat Donegal-lad27 (Donegal) - Posts: 12 - 13/06/2024 16:49:26 2551252 Link 1 |
Donegal weren't complacent against Cork. The 6 day turn around took its toll especially when Cork had a 2 week break.

Yes thats accurate. Mcguinness nor the players would have gone down to Cork expecting an automatic 2 points. They were tired, and there isnt much you can do about that other than do your best. The next games will show an improvement, no doubt about this.

Pay no attention to media, they are only too anxious to drive the knife in McGuinness and Donegal if things go wrong, you'll hear some mealy mouthed praise when things are going well. Focus on ourselves and enjoy the good days, and hope Jim stays in charge as long as possible' Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3020 - 13/06/2024 19:50:14 2551283 Link 1 |
I don't think we should be physically tired maybe a bit of mental tiredness crept in.Also McGuinness is meticulous in his preparation and maybe he would have liked more time to hone his plan.If the results don't go to plan and we don't top the group we will be out 3 weeks in a row if we beat Clare and win the prelim Quarter. If tiredness is an issue how are we going to manage that.Personally I don't think it should be but obviously 2 weeks would give you a better chance to get a plan in action.Unfortunately it is out of our hands now and we just have to go and win our game and hope for the best.

Squad just announced. No Jason McGee, but I see Conor O'Donnell is in the panel as is Hugh McFadden. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9517 - 14/06/2024 10:39:52 2551367 Link 0 |

Even shipping 3 goals, we were very unlucky not to take at least a draw away and were better than Cork for large periods of the game. There is no equity in how the GAA schedule their games, we played 5 championship games against div 1 opposition in 7 weeks,in the same period Cork played 3, and one of those was against Waterford ffs!

Jason McGee out, hopefully nothing too serious and you never know he might play yet as there are always late changes. Great to have Conor O'Donnell and Hugh McFadden back. Caolan McColgan and Gavin Mulreany out injured as well by the looks of it. Our squad depth is getting a real test. I'm happy to see Mark Curran back, thought he was unlucky to lose his place. Yeah sure we're blue in the face talking about it. I found it interesting to hear Eamon McGee totally disagreeing with Jimmy McGuinness on the whole provincial championship arguement. We all know how highly Jimmy values the Ulster Championship. Eamon's arguement is that it just leads to Kerry and Dublin sharing out All Irelands. Do we scrap the provincials for a year or two and come up with yet another Championship format? Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9517 - 14/06/2024 14:26:49 2551438 Link 0 |
